Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) said earlier this month that the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives should take the lead on banning bump stocks through the regulatory process.

We think the regulatory fix is the smartest, quickest fix, and Id frankly like to know how it happened in the first place, Ryan said.

The National Rifle Association has offered public support for additional regulations on bump stocks, but has not endorsed any legislation that lawmakers could consider.

Law enforcement found that the Las Vegas shooter had 12 bump stocks attached to rifles in his hotel room at the Mandalay Bay Resort
