Hello all! I'm in need of help finding info about an Iver Johnson 22 Supershot. The Serial # is 11152 according to the bottom of the trigger guard. The gun actually belongs to a friend , who received it from his grandfather a number of years ago. Any help in ascertaining the value, rarity or any other info about this pistol would be greatly appreciated. Thanx in advance!
The grip appears to be burled walnut. "22 Supershot" appears on the left side in large print and my friend is pretty sure the gun was made in the '30's. The bluing is approx 50% and the is not a bit of rust on the steel. The barrel is about 7" and it is a double action

If you don't know what the hell you're doing, go do it somewhere else!

the iver johnson's arms & cycle works '22 supershot' was manufactured between 1928 and 1941. they were a predecessor of the '22 supershot sealed eight' (1932-1954). the '22 supershot' model was offered in either a 7 or 9 shot version (non-recessed chambers). it should have the lettel code "K" as a prefix to the serial number found under the grips of the left side of the grip frame. the '22 supershot' was a limited production handgun as the '22 supershot sealed eight' was more popular (after it was introduced in 1932). serial number K11152 was manufactured in 1931. there were 4,900 of this model manufacured that year which was the second highest year of production for the 22 supershot. total production for the '22 supershot' between 1928 and 1941 was only 22,650. iver johnson must have had access to one very large american black walnut tree because there are some really nice grips found on the '22 supershot', '22 supershot sealed eight' and 'target sealed 8' revolvers as well as the butt stocks of their shotguns.

this model is covered in the just published revised edition of my iver johnson book.

just go the the auction side of this site and enter 'iver johnson' in the search area. they do show up from time to time but generally will be offered for less than the 22 supershot sealed eight, which at texas gunshows are usually offered at about $250 but actually sell for $200 or under in 80 to 90%. at lessor condition prices fall accordingly. the 22 supershot will usually be about 25% less. as a less produced item it should be the other way around but it isn't.
