| Can anyone explain the primary differences between a standard chamber in 22long rifle as compared to the 22LR match or Bentz chambers? Or direct me to some reading that will explain it to me. For starters I assume the match somewhat tighter then the standard, but then what is the Bentz chamber? As usual thanks for any and all input. |

Hi,
A Bentz chamber is a match chamber for a semi-automatic rifle. It is designed to provide a tight chamber similar to a match chamber but not quite as tight as a match chamber because they are used on semi-automatic rifles and have to accommodate the feeding/extraction cycle.
Bentz chambers are normally shorter than regular 22LR chambers and usually come with a warning that they will not chamber some types of 22 ammunition including Stingers or Quik Shoks because their case length is too long to allow the action to cycle. This means the bolt will not close at the breach.
Here are the dimensions of each type of chamber.

The "Ruger" 10/22 factory chamber is the "Sporting" chamber above.
The "Bentz" chamber is the 'match' chamber for semi-autos.
The "Match" chamber is for bolt actions.
The "Win M52-D" is a bolt action target rifle.

You would need to verify, but the 10-22 "target" model, aftermarket "target" barrels for the 10-22, 22LR target pistols are just a couple of examples that might be cut with a Bentx chamber. |
