Can any of the experts explain the differences between falling block and rolling block actions in single-shot rifles? I have been using the terms interchangeably. Are they not synonyms?
Thanks in advance.

Thanks, Saxonpig. My rifle is a falling block. I guess I have yet to see a rolling block.

Go to the auction page & type in "falling block" & you will find four
(Note that one is a rolling block).
Type in "rolling block" & you will find a whole page of them.

The late Frank de Haas wrote SINGLE SHOT RIFLES AND ACTIONS. It has been revised at least once. James Grant wrote, I believe, SINGLE SHOT RIFLES. Everything you want to understand is understandable in de Haas' book.
