Another work conversatin that leads to more questions and GB is the place I always ask first.
So is it safe to eat rabbits in the summer? Or do you need to wait until the first or second frost due to wobboles (sp?) and/or rabbit fever?
After you clean a rabbit do you soak them in salt water? If not than what do you do with a skinned a rabbit?

An evil tree bears evil fruit. You can destroy as much fruit as you want, but it will always grow back, and it will always be evil.Tear the tree out of the ground by the roots and burn it. Burn it to ash and grind out the embers with your boot until there's nothing left. Not a single spark. Not a single seed.[/size=1]

I would not eat a wild rabbit till the weather turns cold..frost plus a couple weeks.

Besides..you will lose your appetite , walking up and seeing the rabbits skin crawl around as the worms realize that they are getting cold...

Had a couple rabbits getting in the garden a while back so I blasted one of them with my .22.

Not thinking, I walked over to it and picked it up by the ears to toss it. I kid you not, INSTANTLY I had bugs (fleas and ticks) literally covering my arm up to the elbow...like rats abandoning a sinking ship!

Around here, they usually have worms this time of year, so no, I don't eat them.

CGR,
All kidding aside, you're best bet if unsure would be to call your local Wildlife Conservation Officer, Game Warden, or whatever they're called there.
I'm sure an office can be found in the phonebook or in the current hunting regulations digest when/where you get your hunting licenses.

Actually, if they live in your area, the Welsh Rabbits are the best tasting ones. Easy to skin and prepare.

It is not legal here either. That said, I was told If I HAD too eat one in the summer too cook it over an open fire until it was slightly charred. No I would not reccomend That you eat a rabbit this time of year unless it was a matter of eat or go hungry. Go squirrel hunting, it is open season, here atleast.

I wouldn't eat a wild rabbit with someone elses teeth.
My dog will catch em but won't eat em, & I trust her judgement.
Aren't they of the rodent family?

I have never tried eating woodchuck. I heard it tastes like pulled pork bbq if fixed properly.

I just couldn't get past the foul odor of the chuck'. Stinky buggers they are.

I wouldn't give ya a dollar for an old greasy coon. Yuck.

This is not a bad time to kill the rabbit. You won't have to carry through summer.

I only eat the groundhogs in the spring (the young ones)

The coon has to be a woods one with lots of bbq sauce.
