Ok, guys, I need help identifying a shotgun. I used to have an old single shot .410 under the Sears and Roebuck name. It had an action release located to the rear and right of the hammer and was a break open design. Rather than push the release lever to either side, this one you pushed down into the receiver. I know that J.C. Higgins and few others made guns for Sears, but I can not find this one gun anywhere. If you know of this gun or have one, can you please post pics so I can confirm. Wanting to purchase. Thank you for any help.

"J.C. Higgins"........was a sears 'brand'. made by almost all u.s. gun makes at one time or another. the shotgun you are looking for was probably made by savage, at leaste thats the only 'side release lever' shotgun that comes to mind.

I know it's not a 410 but it looks to work the way you described it.

Also here is a link to cross Sears guns with who made it.

That looks to be the same type as a Steven's Model 94 or a Savage Model 220L-D hammerless single shot (I have the latter in 20 gauge).

Numrich has schematics of a lot of old rifle and shotguns and also have a cross reference chart you can use to ID you shotgun. Use the chart to find the model of your Sears shotgun, go over to the parts for sale section and most have a picture schematic of the weapon.

This gun is not like the one I am looking for. The release is mounted on the side. The gun I am looking for is very much like the H&R Topper, but again, that is not the one either. I wish I had the model number from my old .410, but I lost the gun several years ago in my younger(read stupid) years in a pawn.
