I have a Colt 1903 that the markings on the slide have been restamped. Also the serial number. You can see where the original marking were located. The right side is marked AUTOMATIC COLT, CALIBRE 32 RIMLESS SMOKELESS. The left side is marked COLTS PT FA CO HARTFORD CT USA, PATENTED APR 20 1897 DEC 22 1903. You can see just a partial rampant Colt at the rear of the slide. The serial number was restamped to 33100040. I can barely make out where the old markings were. It is obvious it was reblued and it was a very good bluing. Has a after market magazine that I am replacing because it does not feed because someone monkeyed with it probably to shoot hollow points or something. Has nice original Colt grips. Never seen one remarked this way. Maybe it was done in another country ? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks, Howard |

| Look up inside the slide for the original S/N. It's in the space where the hammer moves. |

The original SN may be on the slide, but that doesn't change the fact that it is a felony to possess a firearm with an altered or removed SN (&, the receiver IS the firearm).
ATFE has made exceptions on an individual basis. I would take photos of the gun & send them to ATFE with a request for determination of its legality. They will either give you a letter permitting you to keep it, or they will ask you to surrender it for destruction.
Or, you could just bury it in the yard, & it will rust away to nothing. (You can list the grips on GB.)

| I have figured out the serial number. I am not a expert by any means on handguns. Long guns such as shotguns are more to my knowledge. At any rate the serial number is 331000. Sorry for the confusion. Thanks for the replies. |
