We are supposed to get a foot of snow on Friday night.

The snow is really tough on my driveway, 3/4 mile long and steep uphill.
I have invented a home made snowplow, which I will build today. I will drag it behind my 4WD Nissan truck.

I will give a report on Saturday with pics.

I'm in the same shape as you living north of you in SW Virginia awaiting the snow fall friday night. Gonna test out our new 4wds and chains that I bought for them.

Meyers makes a 1/2 ton p/u snow plow...I'd like to have it for my neighborhood

I live on a private road going up an extremely steep grade...I'll have my driveway plowed with my lawn mower long before the road is ever clear

Plow your road with a lawn mower?

Are you kidding?

That must be a hell of a lawn mower.

You will get a kick out of the s***-rig I am going to make today for fifty bucks, but I bet it will work. Gotta get that snow off the driveway.

It may be tricky getting traction, with your truck on the snow and the plow behind.
How do U get the snow OFF the road, with the truck before the plow?Kinsa like putting the cart before the horse...
PS. Please, post pix of the rig...

Allen, A rear hitch mounted blade has allready been invented for pick-ups. It cost more than 50 bucks though.

I can't remember where I saw it though. Good luck to you.

That store bought one is $2500.

I just bought the materials for mine, $78

Yes it is putting the cart before the horse. The tires will flatten a lot of the snow but hopefully I can still plow the rest pretty well.
The part of the road that needs plowing I will be going down a steep hill.
I will put the chains on the front and see what happens. The last blizzard was a foot of heavy, wet snow, I don't know if my home made plow would handle that.
Need to plow once, in the middle of the blizzard, and plow again when it has stopped snowing.

if I'm gonna pay 2500 for a plow I'll just buy a traditional plow for the front.

Yep, your a little north of me. Ya'll will probably get dumped on
according to the weather forecasters. I can safely say right now
that down here in middle east Georgia, we will get a cold azz rain.
Thats what usually happens. Better run to the grocery store now
and stock up on beer, bread, milk

It's working on another ice storm right now in Oklahoma.

This yr reminds me of the old SW VA. winters where snow laid on the ground from Nov. to April. Glad Im off for a while. People here have forgotten how to drive in snow, and there are so many accidents we cant respond to them all unless there is an injury. And were also very under staffed.

They play football in Georgia ?

I spent a very forgettable year in Augusta once upon a time.

This storm was looking pretty tame until a coupple of hours ago, when the ice starting building up and then everything cut loose and the trees are beginning to bend, now.

And it is not supposed to stop until tomorrow.

I do not think you would want this one !

...Thunder boomers (severe T-Boomer Warning out) in front of the cold front with 60-100mph winds with small hail (1") heading this way now...then maybe ice, sleet, snow behind it...who knows around here...I'll pass on the high winds...

Yeah, they play football here,,,GO DOGS!!!!!
I'm not really a football fan though.
It hardly ever comes a bad winter storm here, but when it does, its
usually a doozie. The conditions have to be just right. Three years
ago was our last Ice/snow storm and we had a 4 vehicle pile up in
our front yard

Allen, we are on the Northern reaches of the storm, supposed to get between 1 to 3 inches out of it but the 12 inch line is only 50 miles south of us. Bet there will not be a gallon of milk or a loaf of bread withing 100 miles of the snow storm as of tomorrow!

I watched the six o'clock news.
They said we will get a foot of snow, and to stock up on necessities.

So I drove to the liquor store and got a fifth of gin.

I built the snow plow this afternoon, it looks good!
I will give it a workout on Saturday, I think it will work.

Will post pics.
