Does anyone know anything about these scopes or know where I can find some info and possible price. It has Winchester Repeating Arms stamped on top with a date of 1905, seems to be in excellent condition..

Winchester A5 Scopes seem harder to come by this past year or so...maybe due to the economy we are experiencing. Excellent condition to me means around 98% bluing, correct in every way, functioning properly with no problems optics wise. One in such shape in my opinion would be worth about $750.00 give or take a $100.00.

Date should be 1909 that's when it was introduced.Bausch & Lomb made the lenses. In production until 1928, Winchester sold the entire scope line to Lyman in 1929.

I stand corrected, it is a 1909 stamp...everything seems to be with it although it does have a mount that seems to make it off set from original top position. I will try to get pics..

I've only had one of these A5 Scopes and it was on this Winchester Model 1885 Single Shot Rifle. The scope was surprisingly clear, stable, and very consistent!

Is that a slipover rubber eye relief piece that has been added to the scope?

No I think it is just an old scope cap off of a different scope for protection.

Looking at the condition of your scope and adapters, plus the absolte minimum of $300.00 for your offset adapters, provided they are marked Winchester, the package is worth $950.00.

I do not see any markings on the adapters, where would it be if they were there. I am sure it would be pretty obvious but I can't see any

I've been out for awhile.

My scopes and mounts are packed so I can't tell you exactly where my two sets are marked Winchester, but after looking at some of the pictures that I have on file I see where mine are formed a bit different than yours.

Question: Is your scope's mounts permanently mounted to the offset mounts, or does your scope's mounts slide on and off of the offset mounts?

Kimi, they slide on and off, I took off the ofset mounts to see if they were marked if that is what you mean. The front mount slides back and forth on the scope and i am assuming the back one does also but I don't want to mess with it. It has a kind of spring looking devise in the front of the rear mount also.

Okay, for a moment there I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me!

The next time you take them you you might want to match up the larger and smaller mounts with one another.

BTW, I have seen unmarked sets go for about $300.00 too.

What type of crosshairs are supposed to be on these? The one I have has a single post on the bottom, quite wide when looking thru the scope
