The recall on them is from Remington, not God. That means that the people who were smart enough, not to let Remington buy a $400.00-450.00 MSRP gun back, for a nominal $200.00, can do whatever they want with them...including, but not limited to, listing them on the auction side.
For the most part, as long as the barrel is kept clean after every 20 shots or so, the rifle should be OK to shoot. The recall is still out there. But be advised, that if you send your 17 HMR 597 to Remington, one of two things will happen...
1. They will rebarrel it for 22 WMR, and send it back.
2. They will give you $200.00 store credit.
You will not ever see your 597 again in 17 HMR.
So do with that information, what you must, but the ones you see on the auction are ones that have not been sent back for the recall.

I had Remington rebarrel mine, it was totally free, they paid the shipping both ways. I then sold it on GB for $400 and bought a Volquartsen in 17 HMR. You do not want to be on the receiving end when a case lets go in a 17 HMR Remington 597. And you won't win by sueing Remington because they have told everyone its unsafe. |

I wouldn't choose to be on the receiving end when a case lets loose in a Rem.597 but it happened to me in a .22 mag and it blew the plastic magazine to Hell but it didn't hurt me.Remington fixed the rifle for free and PMC Gave me a bunch of free ammo in other calibers. |
