Wow, no one uses the credit card company??

I see that advertisement on the auction side, for a company that sets a seller up to be able to take credit cards for GunBroker sales. Has anyone tried it? Would it work for a small seller that only does a few sales a week or do you need to be a large volume seller to benefit from the program? Thanks for any input.

Currently this is for sellers that do enough volume to have a merchant account. What that min volume is, I really don't know, but can ask.

We are working with some folks on a system to allow individuals and smaller sellers to accept credit cards without a merchant account. We also hope to be able to integrate some of the new person to person payment solutions that are backed by the large banks and starting to appear on the market to compete with PayPal.

I'm sure Kasey will be along shortly to let you know what she thinks of PAI.

I used a credit card on the auction side to buy these mags:

1st time I've seen that. Worked pretty good.

Ah.... Well then, what do I know? I figured it allowed you to key the # on the phone if needed. I didn't think about it being swipe only.

And you are most likely correct it is an anti gun proposition although they do say you can take payments anytime anywhere.

PAI is actually REALLY reasonable....even for smaller sellers, ESPECIALLY if you wanted to grow. You pay a very small monthly charge ($10 if I remember right.) Then, depending on what type of card people use, PAI charges a very small service charge per transaction. It can be as little as 1.5% and as much as 5%, but around 2-3% is a good average. If sellers would realize how much it actually entices buyers they would all sign up today!!!

Just look at how much I have grown since I started taking credit cards.

This is my batch report for August 13th

Credit Sales: 10231.14

Total: 10231.14

I will see that money in my account probably tomorrow and at that time they will take out the fees. I wish I could show sellers how easy it is. People look at a seller that takes credit cards as a professional seller. People that want to buy multiple items or expensive items...even if the HAVE the money in hand sometimes like the ease of using a card to pay. People feel like there is an extra bit of safety in using a card to pay....."if I'm not happy I'll fight the charge" (If you are a reputable dealer this isn't a problem.)

Imagine how many more sales you would make if you didn't pass that credit card fee on to the buyer!!!

Try it for a month and come back and tell if I'm right.

If the monthly fee is only around $10, it would be worth it to me to sign up and start accepting credit cards. It is much, much easier for the buyer than having to run around looking for money orders, then waiting a week for the post office to deliver your payment. LF, do you need a processor to take the credit cards or can you do it online?

It is built into the GunBroker.com checkout system to give maximum convenience for both buyer AND seller. As long as your items have a defined shipping price. (See description is not allowed) so that the system can calculate a price at the end of the auction then it is available for checkout...

They don't seem to mind paying the added fees themselves. I don't hear anyone fussing when they decide to pay using a cc...they are welcome to mail payment if they wish to avoid the fees.

For a new in the box commodity item, he is probably correct. However, most of Kasey's items are older, unique, and her detailed pictures leave no doubt as to the condition of the item. Her recipe will not work for every seller, but for what she is selling and how, it works very well.

I've sent cash to settle an auction because I didn't want to hassle with money orders. And I was willing to accept the risk.

I have paid Kasey's credit card fee. And frankly didn't mind one bit for the convenience. But I know that there are bidders who see 'cash discount' and move on.

Even though they are dealing with the queen of the no reserve penny auction.

But that's just my thoughts.

Not busting on Kasey (at least not today). But offering a consumer perspective.

unless you are buying a high dollar item,,why would a buyer even worry about a 3% or so add on CC fee, by the time you drive to the post office with the price of gas, buy a money order , put it in something to mail it,,add a stamp. You might come out money ahead just to pay the extra CC fee. I know my time is worth more than the Fee to me

LF, how do you run the credit card? Phone? Online? Or do you have a regular counter top credit card processing machine?

Most of the buyers these days just do the checkout on the website, but the ones that don't I run them on the internet. The people call me and give me the information over the phone, I enter it on PAI's checkout website and it emails both the customer and myself the info. The only reason anyone has to need me to run the cards is if they are buying more than one item and they need combined shipping. It take a couple minutes and isn't hard to do at all.
