I assumed I was looking at a model 94 at a lgs , never did look at the barrel because I was assuming , but can't find what I was looking at in my blue book.

It was a 24" barrel , pistol grip , safety on the receiver , and a full length tube , in 44 mag. Also had checkering. I know nothing about winchester lever guns. Any clues to what I was looking at and it's value in an easy 96%? A stretch I know but I sure did like it! Should have looked closer...

Im guessing you were looking at a Winchester 1892 made by Miroku in Japan, very nice guns. I consider typical examples shooters, not collectables. Like:

Yes, tang safety would probably be a M1892, crossbolt safety would be the M94 described below.

According to the Blue Book. The cross bolt receiver safety was only made for around 11 years. Between the early 90's and the early 00's.

Per your description in 44 Mag, checkered, pistol grip. Seems to be the Model 94 Legacy.

My new BB has it priced between $375 & $435. The don't specify what safety. But personally, I think the tang safety. Would be much better and worth more than the cross bolt safety.

Every time I see one of those cross bolt safety's. I think about the blood sucking, crooked lawyers. Who caused the various gun companies, to add them to their firearms.

Winchester made both 1892's, and 1894's in 44 magnum. The 1894, has a push button, cross bolt safety, and the 1892, has a sliding tang safety. Some of the more rare editions of the 1892, like the trapper takedown, and the Euro Classic, command very serious collector premiums. The Euro Classic was made in 2 chamberings, 32-20, where there were only 30 made, and in 38-40, where only 50 were made.

The 38-40 version, I owned the last 3 made, at one point, as I purchased the last 3 consecutive serial numbers. I kept number 50, and sold the other tow as a consecutive pair for $2400.00 each, and I had $800.00 into each. Yes, I sold them on the auction side. I made enough to pay for the one I kept, purchase two cases of ammo, and purchase a 1886 takedown, and a case of ammo.

Just so you know, they are made by Miroku, Winchester's sisters'(Browning) main manufacturer, and are strong as an ox, and slicker than silk thongs.

Take a look at these auctions on the otherside...

Thanks guys. I do know the asking price is $850 so until I get back there to look closer it appears to be way over priced...
