I miss this one and Enjoy him on Television even if a happy couple. I did not know it and enjoyed his acting as a kid.

Actor and Singer. He is best remembered for his role as Gomer Pyle in the 1960’s television comedies the “Andy Griffith Show” and “Gomer Pyle U.S.M.C.” co-starring actor Frank Sutton. He was a graduate of the University of Alabama where he earned a degree in Business Administration. Following college he worked briefly at the United Nations as a typist and as an apprentice film cutter for the National Broadcasting Corporation (NBC). He began his career performing at various cabaret theaters throughout the state of California before winning an audition to appear on the “Steve Allen Show.” In 1969 he became host of his own variety show “The Jim Nabors Hour” which lasted until 1971 and also appeared as a recurring guest star on the “Carol Burnett Show” during the 1960s and 1970s. In addition to his television career he was also an accomplished recording artist, releasing over 45 albums during his career including several Christmas and Gospel compilations. His career suffered a serious setback in the early 1970’s following a series of rumors alleging a samesexual relationship with actor Rock Hudson. His professional career also suffered in the early 1990’s resulting from serious health issues which ultimately led to a life saving liver transplant in February 1994. In 1991 he was a recipient of a star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame and ten years later he was honored as an inductee into the “Alabama Music Hall of Fame.” His notable television appearances include: “The Danny Kaye Show,” “The Lucy Show,” “The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour,” “The Rookies” and “The Love Boat.” His other notable film and television credits included: “A Different Approach” (1978), “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas” (1982), “Stroker Ace” (1983), “Cannonball Run II (1984) and “Return to Mayberry” (1986). Following his television and motion picture career he became a prominent headline performer, appearing in various concert venues around the country including Las Vegas, Branson, Missouri and Atlantic City, New Jersey. He spent his later years in semi-retirement as a resident of Hawaii, where he owned and operated a macadamia nut plantation and raised tropical flowers. In May 2012 he underwent successful surgery to repair a damaged aortic heart artery,
