I have had a problem finding any value on a Remington 540 Target rifle I'm trying to buy? Can anyone tell me what they are worth? How long they were made? Appear to have a similar bolt to the 541 ,580 series guns. Thanks in advance! Joe

Remington 540x were made from 1969-1974 with a production of 6974 guns. 540xr were made from 1974-1983. Valuation pends condition. Come back with a reply which gun it is.

The gun in question is a 540X in roughly 95%.....

Pending any rail accessories, IF gun is all stock with no modifications it will go for at least 450. Blue book calls less but there has not been a 540x for sale on GB for at least 1 year.Supply and demand dictates price. I own one and they are very accurate. Just remember the production numbers and buy it. If you are not interested email me up and I would consider another one to go with my other target guns. I do have a Lyman Super Target 25x on it which really fits the gun. Do ask the seller if they have the blocks to mount such a scope.

SF Thanks for the info. The Firearms book doesn't list it...this book is where I will go for most everything..guess they dropped the ball on this one? I will likely buy the piece! I'll email ya if I decide to put it up for auction.
Thanks again!
Joe

I would keep it and enjoy. One of Remingtons fine works. The 541x is basically the same gun but clip fed. ( Single shots are preferred to keep from shaving a bullet during feeding ) Check out the price for a new 40x and you decide.
