Got the Flu bug and couldn't make it, probably a good thing too.
The Grand Sierra Resort implemented new rules after the Vegas shootings. No CCW allowed, No guns carried in, No guns in rooms, all guns purchased must leave by a separate exit, same with ammo.
Empty tables and walk ways, rumors of a class action suit by the dealers too. GSR just shot themselves in the azz, this is the biggest money maker venue they have, or I should say, had.

That used to be a nice little show.

I can tell you that at least 12 of the vendors that I personally know there this weekend and many others that I talked to say they won't be coming back unless the venue is changed from the GSR to some place else. The no guns rule was sprung on them Friday, opening day. Just to get in was like a TSA check point at the airport.

And as TRAP55 said there were several empty tables and very few people there Friday. The joke of it all was if you bought a firearm or ammunition you were supposed to be escorted to you car at once by a mall rent a cop.

I always buy the three day pass but not this time. I also bid not do my usual of having lunch and a few drinks at the casino with friends, we decided to meet off site after show hours. I had some business to do with a local leather maker. I've made arrangements to meet him off site.

I'm not really surprised by the casinos actions. the first gun show after the Ls Vegas shooting was cancled by them.

I just heard, that was AFTER they wrapped it up for you, then you were escorted to the special exit door!
These new rules were dropped on the dealers when they got there, and if you didn't have more than one table, you had to go to the end of the line. This was when the dealers got there to set up.
There's always another event there at the same time, and this year it was the Washoe County DNC Convention.

I got a cold and missed the show for the first time in about 15 years. Having been on the planning side of such things, maybe we should cut the promoter (Lou Fascio) and GSR just a little slack for now. Given that anyone with "esq" on their business card probably told them "cancel" just as was done with a previous show, and how little time they had to figure out something & coordinate between themselves, the vendors and security, I'd wait and see what they come up with when they have more time to plan.

They put on a really good show for a long time. I presume they want to continue and we want them to. This is a bump and we should a) let them know we want the show to go on & will attend b) next time we expect better.

Lou died many years ago, but if he were still at the helm, he would have made the Mt Helen's eruption seem like a firecracker. We can only hope that Lou Jr locks and loads against this casino buffoonery.

Gun shows have been in the death spiral for sometime. GB has put a few of those nails in the coffin.

How long before this becomes known as the Fascio Fiasco?

(I know it wasn't their fault, but the alliteration is too hard for me to pass up.)

I'm sure California had something to do with this, too. They may have used Vegas as an excuse but I'm sure this was to ID California ammo and high cap magazine buyers for the CHP roI want fees to go up on California side.

Yosh, I would tend to agree with you. With the ammo buying restrictions that start Jan 1st, MiWall was probably planning for a run on ammo sales that didn't happen. Everyone I talked to this morning was having breakfast and coming home.

Every hotel I have stayed at in the past 10 years had signs banning guns from property. Right now Nevada is all shook up after Vegas shooting. They will make so many stupid rules trying to make the world a safe place that the shows will die.

Like others have said. Many of these past shows will die off due to politics and events like the recent shooting in Vegas.

Shame really but times are changing.

Was this GSR"s idea or was it a Reno government requirement???

Soon there will be a 3 day wait for handgun ammo and 24hrs for long gun ammo.
In Hellinois you need a background check by the state police(similar to the 4473)just to buy and possess any kind of ammo.

As far as I know Reno government could not enforce this. Nevada has a preemption law. Also concealed means concealed. No gun signs do not have the force of law in this state unless it is on a govt building. If the owner saw you with a concealed handgun he could ask you to leave and if you didn't he could have you arrested for trespass.

I was at the show and it was bad. I won't be attending in the future.

I thought you were wrong about that until I looked it up and seen Ill crazy law>>>>>

Last updated October 6, 2016.

Illinois does not require ammunition sellers to obtain a license or maintain records of ammunition purchasers.

License to Purchase/Possess Ammunition

Illinois requires residents to obtain a Firearm Owner’s Identification (“FOID”) card before they can lawfully purchase or possess ammunition.1 No person may transfer firearm ammunition in Illinois unless the transferee displays a currently valid FOID card.2

For detailed information on the requirements for a FOID card, see Licensing of Gun Owners & Purchasers in Illinois section.

Any resident purchasing ammunition outside the state must provide the seller with a copy of his or her valid FOID card and either his or her Illinois driver’s license or Illinois State Identification card prior to the shipment of the ammunition. The ammunition may be shipped only to an address on either of those two documents.3

Even the green part doesn't say it is illegal to buy out of state. It refers to how ammo may be shipped.

True a Hellinois resident can buy from any other state in person without having the FOID card. Hellinois laws do not regulate how other states sell ammo to Illinois residents and vice versa unless they're shipping ammo to Hellinois.
At least not yet...

Just got an email from SHOT show they want us to not bring weapons in through the lobby/hotel for the show. Right now they are just asking nicely, it will probably be a demand before the show starts... If that happens, look for the industry to move the show out of Vegas and back to Orlando.

It's moved up on my bucket list now. I'm sure anything I would want to buy would be prohibited in this commie state. Half my arsenal already is!
Counting down to retirement, then 90 days later, I'll be an Idaho resident ...and free again!

The NSSF, who now run SHOT, although when compared to Reed, that is not necessarily a bad thing, says they are in LV until 2025:

I'll be interested to see if this still rings true after January 2018.

If the Hotel makes it a pain to do the show, I bet Chris will change his tune. I have to say, I really hated when we first moved to the Sands, but at the time we were not staying in the hotel, we were renting houses off the strip to save money, but then transportation eats your lunch especially when we have a large crowd. Now that we are on the property and I know a shortcut the the back of the hotel to the show floor. I love it...
