Hard to believe no one has mentioned Tommy Emmanuel from Australia. Check him out on Youtube & you'll see. He did an album with Les Paul.

Check out Robert Randolph and the Family Band.

I had the pleasure of going to one of his shows this summer. Outstanding group. Last number everyone rotated through all of the instruments. Clearly some were better on different instruments, but they all had some amazing talent. It was a great show.

I just spent a pretty good part of the last hour watching Robert Randolph on YouTube. I first heard this band on a video of Clapton's Crossroads Guitar festival. Been impressed with these guys ever since. Every once in a while someone reminds how good they are, and I spend some time looking up their concert footage. Thanks, I needed that this morning.

What makes one guitarist 'better' than another? Speed? Complexity? The ability to elicit emotion? Amount of music composed? Albums sold?
Is one genre 'better' than the others?
I have favorites and preferences but I wouldn't call them 'better' than others.
The only thing I know for certain is that they are all better than me.

On the country front, Ricky Skaggs is no slouch (the entire band is comprised of fantastic musicians) but who can stand to listen to him sing?

Not bad but I do not see Santana! He is on my list. I would add Eric Clapton and Mason Williams. What do I know just an old hippie!
