CSC, 3Bn, 47th Infantry, 197th Infantry Brigade

Note: We were with the 3rd Bde, 9th ID. We retired the colors and unfurled the new ones while I was in command. Today, I understand the unit is some POG training outfit in Louisiana. Sad days for good units.

US Army, 1/17 Air Cavalry, 82nd Airborne Division, Desert Storm

* Arrived in Saudi in early August, 1990 (chalk 11 of the deployment) and stayed in a hanger at Dharan airbase
* Moved down to our "permanent" location south of Dharan in October - an abandoned airfield near Al Hofuf
* Moved up to Iraqi border near the town of Rafa in late January/early February
* Entered Iraq on February 25 or 26. Ended up just outside Talil airbase on the Euphrates river near the city of Nasiriyah

Desert Shield/Storm: 947th Medical Company, Clearing, KKMC. During the shooting, we saw most of the banged-up folks coming off medevac birds and fixed-wings landing at the airfield at KKMC. After the cease-fire, if you went on sick call on KKMC, you probably saw one of our docs.

I was Headquarters Platoon Leader. Spent most of my time in the motor pool, in Supply, or running around the AO in a five-ton.

Those who fear my guns, inanimate objects, are pathetic idiots. Those who fear a law-abiding citizen and patriot because I own guns are sniveling fools who deserve the chains they forge.
