There was a good Twilight Zone about that. I don't remember the name of it. Some old guy and his dog got killed * hunting and wound up at a place he thought was Heaven, but they wouldn't let his dog in so they went on down the road and found out that was really hell. Heaven let both of them in.
That was a great episode!
Animals commit no sins? Maybe not against God, but certainly against their humans. Did you never see a dog who knew very well he had sinned against the master? Or a cat caught in the wrong place at the wrong time? No my friend, animals have both spirit and soul.
Think about it for a moment... God is said to have given us this world and dominion over it. It could be argued in the case of many animals that they were created by man. This is certainly true of dogs and cats, and is true for just about any domestic animal one can name.
I've come to believe that God intended for man to learn from our creations. In many ways there exists a parallel between man's mastery over a pet and God's mastery over man. If a man were to be blessed and "saved" by a loving God, then I can only conclude that this same loving God would include those beings chosen by man.
Notice the word love. I believe love is the key. By this I don't mean that the life of any living thing is worthless, only that a vast majority of life is not special as there exists no real bond with man.
"Special" denotes a relationship that goes beyond mere familiarity. I can become familiar with a garden snake or toad. I can become familiar with fish in a pond. I can become familiar with just about any living creature, but only the ones sharing a bond of love become special.
Tell me that my canine friend who'd willingly give his or her life to save mine isn't worthy of consideration by a loving God. In fact, I pray daily that I might be as worthy as they.
No my friend, neither spirit nor soul is reserved for man. Love is a bond transcending species. The blessing (or curse) to mankind is that we've been given a somewhat deeper understanding than those we share this life with. We can sin against God. They can't.
I'd be the first to argue that "dogs don't have souls".
No, I think you are the second...
I tried to make one about GB posters having all the fun, but alas, it is down today and needs re-coding...
I'd be the first to argue that "dogs don't have souls".
but dogs dig holes, and like rolls, and lick bowls.

I expected all the regular religious posters to chime in with their "opinions."
I mean, where are Barzilla, and ECC and P3Sky, etc?
I thought this would be some heavy theological discussion...

God has to more pleased with a greater number of dogs than humans.[^]
That is a stone cold fact...

I'm not a Biblical Scholar but I don't think the question is addressed in the Bible. The Bible does mention animals or animal like creatures in Heaven. I hope they do. [:)]
God Himself has a yellow Lab.
IMO, of course.[:D]
No deep religious "point-counter point" discussion.
Refreshing!
