This kind of crap will stop when police officers are forced to learn the laws they were hired to enforce. Police officers will be forced to learn the laws when the cities they work for start losing 7-figure jury awards for damages.

I'm afraid the link you gave won't work with all the periods in the address. You'll have to edit it and put the real address in place of those dots. Thanks.

    Police state? Absolutely.
Nothing about this is a violation in my state, but it is in fact on the books where this occurred. In other words the question isn't whether the cops overstepped and charged someone for doing something that wasn't actually against the law, but instead the legality of the statute itself.

This article doesn't cover exactly how this all went down, which is even more illustrative of how over the top their statute is.

He was initially arrested and had his digital recorder seized for recording an open criminal court proceeding in which he was the defendant. The judge said it violated her right to privacy. Wow.

The case mentioned in this article stems from recordings of prior conversations he'd had with cops being discovered on that recording device. The prosecutor's office then filed these additional charges.

    Welcome to Illinois. [;)]

no police officer should be afraid to have the arrests they make vidioed, it can also be a help to them as well as a person illegley arrested. but even with the camera,s rolling some police still go over board knowing or not careing they are being filmed some times by their own dash cams. eastbank.

If you can't record public servants in public places or while dealing with public issues with officials we are already gone as a nation. The freedom of the press is not just for people with a media pass. It is our JOB as a citizen to keep an eye on government.

This crap will stop when someone has the guts to file a multi-million dollar lawsuit for false arrest, prosecution, and imprisonment against the Police and the prosecutor both collectively and as individuals with attendant publicity in the press and on TV.
