So, this was waiting for me when I got home.

I would have preferred to be consulted on this, but I guess the best things in life are the surprises.
Meet Hero Stella, my new home security officer.

I can guarantee you that there are worse things to come home to! What a cute little feller! I hope he manages to live up to his name.
Hero.....is a girl
This is what happens when the 4 year old names the dog. My wife jumped on that since "girls can be heroes too".
Could be worse....could have been "Super Dog" or something.

Hero will be fine.
You would like my friend's Golden Retriever...Donald. SHE is a very nice dog, named by a 5 yo little girl who always wanted a dog named...Donald.
Donald doesn't seem to mind. Hero won't either. [:D][:D]

And I suppose if you were out in the yard hollerin' "Here, Heroine, Come Heroine!", then every pusher in earshot would be lined up at your door.
Regardless of gender, enjoy your new best friend![^]
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain
We'd just retired and we planned to motorhome around the US, pet free as our cat recently died.
That Christmas our boys surprised us with a Peach Faced Lovebird that turned out to be the best pet; cat or dog we ever had.
Critter-Bird thought he was a person and delighted all he came in contact with. I wasn't interested in a bird as a pet but Critter-bird's personality changed all that.
I performed in that play on stage about 18 years ago.
Too old to live...too young to die...
Too old to live...too young to die...
For a little while[:D]
Jon
Congrats on Hero, she will make a wonderful addition to any family[;)][^]
Get one - or maybe two -- "chuckit" ball throwers. Ball goes further, hands stay dry. Dog gets tired. Owner gets peace and quiet.
For a little while[:D]
LOL!!! I see you have never owned a Border Collie!

Our first Golden was Hobbes... She was the MOST awesome dog. This one is from the same breeder and the niece of one of my good friends dog. Her name is Callie... (short for Calvin which is on her papers...) This one won't hunt. [:(] She will go get... but the retrieving part eludes her.... (she's also really gun shy)[:(]

I didn't say "dog wants to quit"[:D]
Did you see the note "for a little while"? The "granddog" is a Aussie/English Shepherd mix. Wants to play every hour or so.
She'll chase the ball full speed for 10-12 tosses, then will lay down and pant for a few minutes, then back at it.
"Enough" does not translate to "dog speak".
Your wife done good, very, very good, mark my words...
I don't think my wife realized how many people instantly assumed Hero meant "boy"
By the end of last night, she had already had to explain to about 15 people that our dog is a girl.
I helpfully pointed out that she'd better get used it......and she flip flopped faster than a politician in an election year. My boy didn't seem to mind the name change...he is just loving his new dog.
GunBroker......Meet Stella!
Besides being the adorable kind, exactly what breed is your little miss? And she IS adorable. [^]

If you can't feel the music; it's only pink noise!
