I saved the day.....an unbelievable tale

Ok...so, Larry gets home from work at 11pm....starving and tired from his day. He gets his PJs on and fixes a late dinner. We start watching one of the Star Trek Discovery shows (we have the "free" CBS on demand going on this week so we thought we'd check it out.)

Just before midnight I get a call from my brother. He is on the side of the road and says his spare tire mechanism is broken and he cannot get his spare tire released. He asks if maybe Larry's spare tire might work??? They are both 5 lug tires, so we take Larry's off his truck and I head to where my brother is stranded.

Chris has broke down nearly 2 hours away from me.....so I'm driving a bit over the normal speed since there is NO traffic.

I get to him and we soon figure out that Larry's tire will NOT work on Chris' truck. Chris is fit to be tied....and starts calling tow truck services to see what his options might be.

I can't help myself....I have to fiddle with things, so I grab the parts to the jack and snap them together.....looking at the ends of the rod I see the little flare is bigger at one end, so I stick that in the hole and piddle it about until it feels like it is pushed onto the little nub I saw when looking through the hole.....I grab the wrench part and start twisting....I think something is happening, but I can't really tell???

Chris is still ranting. The air is actually warmer coming from the direction where he is standing. I am hummming the Girl from Ipanema and cranking away at this thing. Finally he stops long enough for me to say "look and see if anything is going on under there." He checks and I have lowered the tire all the way to the ground. HA HA HA He is speechless!

We get his tire changed and I head back home.

So, if any of you need me to come save you......call me.....I've found my "gift" and I'll be happy to help any of you that might need me.

I'm sure he feels like a dumbazz, do not let him get over it until you have to. This one is good for a long time. Having 7 sisters I can only imagine how long they would use this one.

No offense to your brother but I'll never understand a guy who cant change his own flat tire.

While I am perfectly capable of changing a tire, I am a firm believer in the value of AAA. They insure you and not the vehicle. Has paid for itself many times over and I never have to jerk the relatives around at 2am for non emergency "emergencies".

Not to give you a hard time for being sweet to your brother but what rate do you value your time?

It wasn't that he couldn't.....he just didn't realize the little end of the jack handle wasn't seated onto the little nubby thing to release the tire. He thought he was turning it and it wasn't letting the tire come down from under the truck. He seriously thought there was something broken and it just wasn't going to let his tire down. I just lucked out and things fell into place for me. If it hadn't instantly happened for me I would have thought there were issues too.

We actually thought Larry's was stuck when we first went to release it, but it was just tight. It made a big "pop" sound when the crank first turned to let his tire down. His is a 2017 Tundra....so I totally believed there might be issues with an older truck if that is the noise a brand new truck's spare can make when its let loose.

He is a computer guy and constantly bailing me out.....its good to have SOMETHING to point to when I message him and say "you're not going to believe what I've done this time." At least I've got something that is a bit more "dire" to lean on. Its not like I can ask for his help and say.....remember when I got that thorn out of your poor little finger?"

I had to go back and read paragraph 5! Ewwww....dirty minds! [:D]

Thank you for all the "kudos"! I'm just lucky I was able to help.

Of course, I plan on ribbing him forever and ever. Being the big sister is a duty I'm sworn to and I take my role seriously.

My mother always said she was lucky Chris wasn't anything like me when we were growing up because then she would be in SERIOUS trouble. He grew to be 6'9" out of pure survival instinct. [}:)][}:)][:D]

Chris and the husband decide that it is a good idea to drive 2 hours at midnight, to put hubands spare tire on brother's truck, even though they are different manufacturer, because both tires have five lug nuts?

That is a goofball plan right off the bat. High estrogen level in the adult males in your family.

Any member of my family that calls me at midnight because of a flat tire 2 hours away from home better also be having a heart attack and telling me they're just calling to say goodbye.

I'd drive from here to Remlap (900 miles) to help this woman, or a few others, no matter what the distance.

It's what friends and or family do.

I personally do not have AAA but I buy their best package for both of my kids that live out of state. They have both used the services numerous times.
    Flat tires, tows, jumps, etc
Even 5 gallons of gas when my Sons friend ran out of gas!!

It makes a nice Christmas present!

My dad got me AAA when I was a teenager and just joined the Navy. If I have a bit of time I'll have to tell about the time AAA wouldn't come save me when I was in Hawaii. I might have posted this tale.....but it wouldn't hurt to hear it again.

I know more than just me wants to hear that tale. I have lost count of the times AAA has towed vehicles for me. I always get the deluxe plan with RV so it covers boats, trailers, and campers as well as a long distance tow.

Kasey, you are welcome to help me change a tire any day of the week and twice on the Sabbath.
Some will die in hot pursuit
    And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
    While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
    Coming down the mountain
