Why is this the biggest story right now?

Is it just because hes a celebrity its like hes the first one do something stupid???

All day on the radio, all they could talk about was Mel Gibson, even on TV, the story got more airtime than the fighting in the middle east.

Its really sickening to me when this kind of crap is front page news, not the guy who saved a babies life in a car crash, or a police officer who was killed in the line of duty trying to protect a child... no.... they have to make the front page about Mel Gibson driving drunk.

The media sucks.

    Gibson is reviled in the movie industy, and it follows, the rest of the information media. When they hate you, they love to see your back exposed. He exposed his and now they'll stick him.

    Its stupid that half the news is about the wars in the middle east, and the other half of the news is slanderous and defaming material on athletes, politicians, celebrities, etc.

    I had a friend who lives in Colorado and they had a big ol' fire (something like 50,000 acres) around where he lives. He was evacuated and had to live in a shelter for a week (as well as several hundred other people). I didnt hear a single thing about it on the news, the media was much more concerned with celebrities that are dating and which celebrity is more famous.

    I'm tempted to say it's because of our inane fixation on celebrities, but I suspect it has more to do with the left's desire to bring down any member of the entertainment business who does not follow their PC guidelines.

    Whoopee freaking mackeral crap . . . DWI charge and cussed at the arresting officers (something drunks never do, of course). As others have noted, the leftists wouldn't be having such an orgy of ecstasy if it were say, george clooney, Hollyweird's handsome loon. Think of the number of these clowns arrested for substance abuse of all kinds . . . hardly a peep.     Gibson doing 85 in a 45 mph zone while drunk is bad enough by itself, but this story has traction because Gibson has a long and murky personal history with accusations of Jew hatred.

    It's clear that Gibson's father is a Holocaust denier and unrepentant Jew-hater, and Gibson made an internationally successful film recapitulating a story used as an excuse for Jew-hatred for centuries.

    In the past Gibson has denied being an anti-Semite and then after being allegedly caught on tape under arrest while drunk making these same remarks, he's denied it again!

    I agree with the premise of this thread that celebrity gossip shouldnt be big news, BUT as far as celebrity gossip goes, this is about as big as it gets. Its called "irony", and the bigger they are, the harder they fall.

    "Born again drunken actor accused of making a Jew-hating movie, falls off the wagon, gets drunk and makes Jew-hating remarks".

    Sounds about right to me.

    Incidentally, I couldn't care less what Gibson believes or says while drunk.

    To me the biggest story right now is that Castro is bleeding from his gut. To me that means its pretty likely he has metastatic cancer.

    Boy this drunk p-issed of a lot of people in Hollywood. Funny how compassion is expected and the Conservatives are the heartless people, but one guy gets drunk, Rush is addicted to pain killers, or remember when Rush lost his hearing, and the leftists in the media show no mercy. But if his name is Jackson or Kennedy, then the incident is nothing more than a joke.

    Wish they would practice what they preach just once. President Clinton is a womanizer. That's OK. Senator Livingstone gets crusified.

    Cynthia McKinney can even slap a cop and still has a job.

    I hope Mel Gibson gets the help he needs. This incident is terrible. Perhaps he is crying out for help.

    If it had just been an uneventful DUI, I would agree with you guys. But for an A-list megastar like Mel Gibson to get busted drunk driving, and THEN actually THREATEN the police officer, and THEN go on an anti-Jewish tirade (which was audiotaped), well that is a fairly big story for one of America's most high-profile men. And this was top story on Drudge for like two days, I guess he is part of the "libeal media" as well? As I recall the Patrick Kennedy DUI was front page news as well, kinda blows your "liberal media" theory out of the water.

    I think this is more of a case of you guys defending and excusing the criminal behavior of an actor because you sympathize with his political and religious beliefs. If this was Michael Moore who got popped for DUI and then threatened a police officer, all of you would be singing a different tune (and I don't recall anyone of you saying that Patrick Kennedy's DUI was "no big deal" when he was plastered all over the news, you guys were nailing him to a cross and rightfully so).

    My Grandfather was a Cherokee who grew up on the reservation in Oklahoma. You should read up them.

    We had our own version of Nazi's here, but it's in the past.
