THE RIGHT TO ARM DELIVERYMEN
January 22, 2002 -- CHINESE-FOOD delivery man Hong Dong Xie foiled two would-be muggers by pulling out his .380 semi-automatic and shooting one of them in the hip, as reported in The Post on Saturday. According to his brother, Xie got the gun a year ago after being robbed three times in four years. He also foiled a robbery in his restaurant last May by firing shots into the air. Xie faces criminal charges because the permit for the gun he had was a "premise permit," meaning it was only good for use in the restaurant itself. On the street making deliveries and carrying cash, he is fair game. Just like the two deliverymen who were murdered and the three who were brutally beaten last year. For decades, New Yorkers have continued to be held hostage by the liberals and their lunatic theories regarding "gun control." In the liberals' world Xie's choices when confronted by muggers include giving up his hard-earned money or taking a beating and possibly getting killed - rather than use a gun and offend the sensibilites of those for whom the Second Amendment is something to be done away with at the earliest opportunity. He must surrender meekly, hope for the best and wait for the arrival of police. After the fact, of course. Food recipient Norman Zambrana expressed the views of that "other New York," which lives in less-than- tony neighborhoods, and must confront the fear of crime on a daily basis. "Good for him," said Zambrana, when he learned Xie had successfully defended himself. Precisely. http://www.nypost.com/postopinion/opedcolumnists/39588.htm
