significant other age difference survey

Significant other age difference survey:

I am curious how many years separate you and your significant other...

Please let us all know how many years older or younger you are from your better half...

I am almost 15 years older than Makaila

I turn 45 in December

She turns 31 in December

She showed me one of her women's magazines that says you should take a man's age - divide in half - and add 7 to realize the age of the women he should be dating...

She also thinks that most males under 36 are not realy men yet and not worth a woman's serious time...

I am not a proponent or adherent to either position - I just thought they were interesting points discussion - conversational gambits - thread bait...

Do tell - fess up - contribute to this thread

As always comments from the peanut gallery are greatly appreciated

And as an aside - I find it difficult to accurately judge a woman's age strictly based on appearance - how about you...

Woodsheds Christmas gift post has a pic of myself and of Makaila in every day work garb - how old do you think we look???

Please if you have not done so already and are able offer up a small token item - gift - repurposed small for his philanthropic give away - anything will do - even something handcrafted...

And if someone is in need please enter their names to be considered as gift recipients - we all know some child in our social circle who is in need or deserves a special treat...

Give dammit - or when my Cancer kills me I will haunt you.

Anxiously awaiting the dissolution of this thread into a political argument.

Mike

I'm 32, she is 26. I am still waiting for her to start thinking like an adult. We are total opposites. She still lives with her parents wants as little responsibility as possible. At least she has a job. Can't blame her totally, she is an only child and her parents to this day spoil her.

Me on the other hand own three houses, 160 acres, 70 head of cattle, and a shop that specializes in classic Mercedes Benz repair and service.
I like to work and I like challenges.

Surprised we have lasted as long as we have.

Me and the wife are within 3 months - 7 days of being exactly the same age.
We married young 19/18 and actually grew up together.
Our first born came when we were married only five years.
The next two came at two more years and then four more years.
We have four grands now and... Hope we can retire so we can enjoy them growing up.

Had I been significantly older than her... I'd be dead and she'd be raising first
our children and then our grand children without me.
That's what happened with my Dad and Mom.

There was 17 years difference between them. Dad was gone by the time my second was born.
Mom raised my younger brother on her own.
And now, my children and their children will never have known my Dad.
That... Has saddened me for years.
My Dad would have been such a great influence on my children... My grandchildren.

I hope I can break that mold.

im 51 i could not remotely imagine dating someone 31-32 by that math, i would feel like i was in a midget porn, who is the real freak me or the midget ?

now thats just me personally, i however do not judge others at all on finding love to each their own

i just cant think of myself at 70 having to worry about my 50 year old wife running around on me

    Yeah...

It struck me as a bit odd.

    My case is somewhat different.

She is a widow - lost a husband and daughter to a drunk driver.

Says she will not have anymore children.

The targeted radiation therapy treatments for my Cancer have left me sterile.

We are considering legally adopting her niece - who will be living with Makaila as soon as she turns 18...

It's the closest thing I have - or ever will have to a family.

I know it's less than ideal but it's all I have and she is an angel sent from heaven.

I'm about 11 years older than my wife. My lawyer advises me not to say how old she was when we started dating.

For years she said she was just a bit over 1 year older than me. Even had it on her driver's license. Then when she became a citizen she was suddenly two years older. Is that grounds for nullifying the marriage license or is waiting 46 years too long?

Marriage is a strange beast and I don't think any formula is 100% accurate as to whether it will work. Personalities aside, being in the same generation probably increases one's chances of success. By this I mean a few years either way really shouldn't be an issue.

But if I'm correct, then how do we explain successful marriages where decades separate partners? Obviously I have no answer. I do, however, think we all age at different rates. Circumstances thrown at us in life often move us forward or backward in a generational sense.

Perhaps in your case, Mike, the loss of a husband and child set Mikalia years beyond her biological age. She has already endured unimaginable hurt in her life and she understands yours. Perhaps your relationship was meant to be by virtue of a horrible accident, then cemented by something known as cancer.

What I'm absolutely sure of is that character has much to do with relationships. I look back at the day my wife and I were married and I remember our vows. So does she. We gave our word to each other and have kept it for nearly half a century. We never think about our minor difference in age, other than I kid her about being an "older" woman.

What I'm trying to say without a whole lot of success is that biological age is only a part of the picture. Mental age and basic compatibility are perhaps more important. Sometimes success is found under the most unlikely of circumstances and numbers mean nothing. Some here seem to prove my point.
