Any Computer Gurus?

Well, that Klez virus did a number on my computer before I was able to kill it. I ended up formatting my hard drive and reloading everything. I was doing some online Windows 98 updates and downloaded the Windows Media Player Version 7.01

This version has an Online Radio option that allows you to listen to radio stations that have live internet streams. I thought this was pretty cool because you can listen to radio stations from all over the world. Imagine the possibilities. I connect to the internet, fire up Windows Media Player 7.01 and click on the "Radio Tuner" option. The stinking Media Player can't detect that I have an internet connection and it tells me to go through windows Internet Connection Wizard to establish one. I've been tinkering around with the "Network Options" on the media player but still can't get it to detect my internet connection. It's getting rather frustrating. Any ideas?

Hey idsman75, I opened my Windows Media Player and it worked right away. I'm wondering if it is tied into the settings of your Ineternet Explorer browser? If so, I would navigate to tools | Internet options | connections | lan settings and select "automatically detect settings".

    See if that works.

Otherwise, I'm sure there's something in the Windows registry that can be set to correct the problem. Have you tried the Help feature within the Windows Media Player?

Finally, you can visit Microsoft at www.microsoft.com and go to the knowledge base or Frequently Asked Questions section for help.

I'll keep tinkering with my system to see if I can find more information..

Also, do you have a firewall on your PC or in your network? If so, it's possible that it could be restricting streaming audio..

    Good luck!

**Also, I'm running WMP version 8. You can download that from http://www.windowsupdate.com .

Try "real player basic." I sometimes listen to radio on the net but my modem is slow so unless you have a super fast medem of cable modem it will "skip" a lot. Kinda drives me nuts. DSL probably won't "skip" while your connection buffers (catches up with the braodcast.)
In my opinion they still have lot of bugs to work out on internet radio and tv.

I haven't used mine much because I have the bad luck of logging onto sites in the past that are basically trying to play "sample" cuts and sell music, and are not really Internet radio stations. After reading your question, however, I went into the Options menu (under Tools) and selected Network. I changed the default MMS to HTTP (browser). I got a window of selections and I selected Jazz. I'm now listening to WDNA 88.9 FM Miami and I've only had one pause to buffer since it began playing. I imagine if I start doing other net stuff it may download slower, but right now I'm getting pretty music. Maybe you should try your Options menu.

Sorry, I meant to say the Tools menu on your Windows Media Player, not in IE.
