I am watching the Dover Race and when it came to the left front side of the car they only put 2 lug nuts on it and 3 on the right front.

It's a penalty so that they have to drive with only some lug nuts, or doing so causes them to be penalized?

They are not being officially penalized for it anymore, but there have been a lot of extra pit stops because of loose wheels. Kind of penalizing themselves.

I forgot that is no longer a penalty. I just remember seeing guys get fired after missing lug nuts and throwing us from 2nd to 15th....

Without all of them on the studs can egg shape the holes then the vibration gets really bad.
