SKS Clip

I hate to sound dumb but at 70 years old I guess I earned it. I am having a hard time putting the clip in a Chinese SKS. The clip is serial numbered to the gun and the gun is unfired. Can't figure out how to lock the bolt open. Tried holding it open but the clip just will not snap in. Going to sell it but want it right. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks !

The follower on the magazine body should keep the bolt open. The stripper clip goes in the notch at the top, push ammo down into action.

Well I don't know how to remove the trigger group. Don't want to bugger up the one screw I see. I know how to remove the bolt, etc.

I took the bolt out. I stll can't get the magazine to go back in. Doesn't look like anything is missing. Never seen one I couldn't put the magazine in. It was out when I bought it but don't know how they took it out. Fellow died that owned it. They always snapped in and the latch held them. About run me up the wall !
Thanks for all the help !

I think what we have he-ah is... failyah to communicate. The words MAGAZINE and CLIP mean different things.

The SKS (with few exceptions), was made to use a non-detachable MAGAZINE, loaded with the use of stripper CLIPS. Unless yours has been modified from the original, it is not a matter of a magazine "clicking" into place like an M1 Carbine, M-14, or M16.

If you go over to surplusrifle.com, scoll down LEFT side until you get to SKS, there is a good tutorial on taking one apart, putting it back together. As far as the detachable, extended magazines, there may be some that actually work- I have just never seen one (and I got my first SKS in 1968).

It has to be just 10 rounds. Not big enough for 30. It would probably hold the bolt open if I could get it back in. Like I stated it is serial numbered to the gun. All serial numbers match. I slide it in the catch on the barrel but the rear won't go down. Likes just a little fitting. I filed the end down a little but that didn't help. Just can't figure it out.

Find someone who can help you in person r take it to your local gun shop. They will more than likely help you reinstall the magazine safely.

I went to surplusguns.com and followed the instructions and got the mag back in. It wasn't easy for me but it is working. The gent that said removing the trigger housing was a pain was very correct. Wish I knew how or why they took it out. Maybe somebody used a bigger magazine in it. I am sorry I said clip at first. Getting old and slow. I really appreciate all the help. Know how to do it now but hope I don't have to again !
Thanks and GOD Bless America !! Let's take it back in November !!
Wish I could buy you all a beer !

I'm thinking that the magazine was removed from the rifle and he can't get it back in.
