This question has probably been asked a hundred times, but can someone tell me the difference between a AR-15 pre-ban or post-ban?
thanks

An original Colt AR-15 rifle was fitted with a flash hider, a bayonet lug, and was available in a retractable stock carbine version. Colt discontinued the sales of AR-15's to the public in 1989 and then reintroduced the rifle as the "Sporter" which had the flash hider, but lacked the bayonet lug. The retractable stock option was also discontinued at that time and the lower receiver had a block installed to prevent inserting the so called "drop in" auto sear. When the Crime Bill was passed in 1994 Colt renamed their rifle the Match Target and eliminated the flash hider which was by then prohibited under the Crime Bill. Other than the elimination of those features along with changes in barrel weights and rate of twists over the years there are really very few changes between a pre and postban Colt AR-15.

Are collapsable stocks completley illegal or just on post 1994 guns?
