    Hey SAX! you can never completely delete anything from a computer, Unless you destroy the harddrive, and then you can still get info. somewhere along the line everything gets stored away, just gotta know how to get it back.

    Classic is right. In my last job, we had a computer/netowrk forensics lab. This is where we take a computer or network device like a router or firewall, make an image of the hard disk, the analyze the data on the copy. The original disk is preserved and locked up and we had to maintain a "chain of custody" for the original so that it could be used as evidence.

    Even if the drive had been formatted, we could still get alot of info off of it. We had very delicate equipment that had very very sensitive reading heads that could read the slightest magnetic images.

    Erasing a file does not actually erase it. It just removes the filename from the lists and allows the drive to re-use the space that the file used, if needed. Even it the space gets overriden with data, we could still read the area of the disk, disregard the strong magnetic image and read the slight image that is still there.

    Big brother IS watching.
