How to put a dirtbag away?

edited July 2005 in General Discussion
Bout two weeks ago I was moving and my brother was drivin my truck and I was drivin his. A local dirtbag hit my truck in the rear while my brother was sitting to make a turn dirtbag was doing bout fourty mph. He then sped off and I chased him til he and his passenger bailed and ran through back yards finally tackled him over a fence. Police came cuffed him and ambulance took him to the hospital cause he screamed his leg was broke. Probably get that bill payed cause he doesnt work even though he was injured in the act of a crime. Find out he bailed and ran because the car was stolen and he had no license. Police said probably he wont recieve any punishment unless I pursue the matter legally they will drop charges. What options do I have? I dont want to pursue it legally cause it wont do me any good to take him to court he doesnt have any money I just want them to charge him with what he has done. He is a deadbeat thief. I want him to get his. He damaged my truck and my brother had minor injuries and the dirtbag made me chase him down.

Stolen car, leaving the scene of an accident and you say the police won't take any action? Where the heck do you live? I might need to make some bank visits there.[:D]

Yeah John cops said courts are over worked and probably get probation or a little time if any. Will they tell me if I ask what is going on with that?

Once charged cops will have little to say about the matter, it will be up to the prosecuting attorney not them, file charges against him if they have the time in court to give him probation as suggested they have time to sentence him, and in the future even if he did get probation he can get time if he breaks it, add more to the losers record while you have the chance, it will also back up if he tries to sue you for his medical bills

In King County (Washington) the prosecutor typically doesn't file charges against car thieves until their 7th offense. Can you believe that? The first six car thefts are free.

If the scumbag was stealing pretty new cars he could have racked-up over $100,000 in thefts before he's even charged with a crime. It's no damn wonder the Seattle-Tacoma area has some of the highest per capita car theft rates in the USA. Where's the incentive NOT to steal them?

I was going to suggest something to do with a backhole, gasoline, and shotguns not leaving any ballistic evidence.

But maybe I'd better not. If the cops and proscuting attorney will not handle the problem, maybe the citizens will have to.

    Your mileage may vary.

If the police won't accept a report, call the prosecutor/district attorney and file a report. Once that's done, the PA/DA will run with it. The most you would have to do, if it went to trial wuld be to show up and ID the guy.

He's right about the courts being overworked. I hear some of them are up to a three and a half day work week.

Sue the car manufacture. If they had not made that car, it could not have been stolen and used in a crime.[:)]

Silver6, where the hell do you live, that the LEO's is convinced that the DA will not prosecute for a half-dozen crimes, probably of which two are felonies? Any chance the cop(s) is trying to get a "friend-of-a-friend" off the hook, or something like that?
Well, maybe they wouldn't prosecute you for beating the mortal hell outta' the guy the next time you see him?!

He's going to have fun suing you. Might want to talk to your lawyer.

He'll probably swear you beat him up and further exacerbated an
already (only ) fractured leg. With a good shyster lawyer ... he'll be
able to make a good case.

You SHOULD have called 911 and let PROFESSIONALS deal with it -
filing a good crime report is a valuable thing!

... and THINK of the psychological damage you did to him! ... he didn't
know you - you could have been armed with a nail file or even mace!

    ... never know!

I witnessed a stop sign being run, curve missed, spinout into a older gentleman's fence, tearing it up. Driver smelled of alcohol, and me without a cell. They were being followed by a p/u, which proceeded to pull them out. I called it in from two blocks up the road, and picked up my cellphone at the same time. Drove back down there, as they were preparing to leave, and made another call. They wouldn't even take the tag numbers, but said if I notified the owner, and he wanted to press charges, then I could give him the tag numbers. Owner was on vacation, on a two week cruise and gets back tomorrow. Wonder what they will say when he calls complaining about somebody tearing up 100 feet of fence, and they don't have my number?
Police departments sure have changed in my lifetime.

Zipperzap called 911 before he bailed out and had the cell phone in one had and him in the other while goin over the fence. And he told the police he hurt himself jumpin over the fence before I got ahold of him. He may be a thief but he sure did admit to everything and tell them how it went. He seemed like he was too dumb to lie. Oh and yes zipperzap officer said to the dirtbag he was "lucky I didn't beat the fire out of him"

Sounds to me like the cops need to be shown how it gets done there. If they don't want to do it they can collect evidence for things they don't really want to collect evidence for.

Lowrider- I'm really curious where you get your figures from, or if you just fabricate things as it is convient for you. I've known Norm Maleng for the better part of fifteen or twenty years I think you're full of bababooey this time.

I don't care if you know Bozo The Clown. The fact that there is no jail-time for car theives until the 7th offense has been widely reported in the news for the past few years. In fact, it wasn't long ago that there was another big outcry about it and the prosecutor's office started talking about "tightening things up." Maybe they'll drop it down to 4 or 5 offenses before jail. You know, really put the fear of God in these scumbags.

I suggest you do a little research before accusing people of "fabricating" things. I'll see if I can find some news stories about this subject.

Some laws are messed up. You will have to turn the matter over to your insurance and let their attorney's handle it. However , the party that had their car stolen is worse off than you. Now their title shall read " Salvage Vehicle" to the next owner.

The moral of this post is:

Dont buy a car, just steal one, when you get tired of it, go steal another.

And all this time I have been making payments, something is wrong here.
