I don't know where this happened, but the pilot has a SET, and probably a PILE in his pants!!

Any landing you walk away from is a good landing. Talk about knowing your aircraft!

Snap to normal, perfect landing position at the end much too quick, even considering the "Extra 300" excellent roll-rate. Yes, the acft in the picture is an Extra 300. Weighted side would have continued in the roll, causing wingtip to hit the earth. Roll much to fast for an acft that has lost 1/2 of it's roll (aileron) capability. Engine torque not a factor, 'cause the acft was at full throttle when it started its roll.
It's a doctored film, folks.
Here's a REAL one, from the History channel. F-15
real? you're kidding right? i am not saying it hasn't happened, but the video -- c'mon now!
But, day-um! [:0]
Looks like it's fake.
Whoops!
Looks like it's fake.
Thanks HP, i knew we'd get to the truth ...[;)]
Jpwolf, I did watch the video and there is no footage of that particular aircraft flying with a missing wing. The fact that it was on history channel doesn't mean anything. Once again, I am not saying it didn't happen, I am saying the video is not of the aircraft in that case. I wish it were, it'd be a fascinating to see it.
Oh ok, I get ya.
But I did hear a description of this video on a radio talk show. He said that the wing came completely off of the airplane.
I have a lot of airtime in light aircraft, and I do not believe it possible to land a plane with one wing.
If that wing comes off, hit the silk quick, or die.
As for F15s, I don't know, that powerful jet plane is too far removed from my experience for me to say.
Rolling it 90 degrees against the lift of the remaining wing is hard to believe. And then there's the question of fuel and fuel pressure.
Why didn't he leave the airplane when he had altitude and the wing came off??
Did he really think he could land that airplane?
If it's true, it's incredible.
But these small homebuilt micro-planes or whatever they're called, they're grossly overpowered - in most of them, you can actually "hover" by flying straight up and adjust the throttle - and make much of what he did is possible because the plane is so light and the wings/*/propeller/engine are oversize compared to what's needed for such a light craft.
But I believe the landing was "doctored" in some way - he makes an almost perfect adjustment to level out with the landing-strip, right before he lands. And it is wicked fast...
I don't know about the landing - but from what I know about the light crafts, they can do amazing things to begin with.
