Smoking Jacket Club

spinyspiny Member Posts: 3,117
edited December 2002 in General Discussion
Being a new member, I did not have the opportunity to join.
Being that it is New Years, why not have a membership drive?
Being that there is a bit of **** currently being posted, why not have a meeting?
I have a brandy snifter, can find some poetry, and will wear a 'smoking jacket'. No cigar, but I can go get one of those 50's era cigarette holders out of a box in the basement if required.

A bit of strong beverage (for sipping purposes) might be in order. We don't hold membership drives since the SJC is a bit on the "exclusive" side. We don't want just any rabble dragging itself in on the doormat. It's a bit like folks who hunt with Brownings if you catch my drift. However, I am not responsible for new memberships.

Sorry Spiny, SJC seems to be the longtimers here. Don't worry, maybe we can establish a society for the newbies based on cigars, guns, and cheap hooch. And maybe bowhunting in case someone out there has "never shot a bow"[}:)]
PS if you didn't catch the post in question, disregard the last remark, Pa's done enough to enlighten us on it, if ya missed it too bad.[:o)]

    Sorry typo>>>>>>>>.

would a person be allowed to become a member of the SJC club if he only drinks miller beer out of a glass bottle on occasion or velvet and water and also chews copenhagen? also not the best with spelling, grammer and typeing....i am a two fingered key pusher [:)]

Bow hunting? No, I will avoid that and the full moon as well. Looking for a read on a 'classy' thread - like SJC.
Don't hunt with a Browning. Don't get to hunt. Own a few guns though. Apparently one is 'ugly' - oh well.
Sipping? Let's see. On hand would be: Two Fingers, Grey Goose, Stoli, Goldschlager, Baileys, Carolans, Bushmills. Any or all could be chased by Blue Moon, Heineken, Grolsch, Saranac, Bass or Guinness. Let me know if I need something else. Stores close soon.
Just don't know if I am 'suave' enough. Need that one defined.
If I don't meet the membership requirements, perhaps I can just stand around and listen to the polite conversation. It may raise my level of intellect so that I could aspire to honorary (?) membership.
I really need to get to spell-check from here!

This is a copy of the rules from the original post....new members are always welcome.....

    1. Must have more than one firearm

    2. Sense of humor (optional)

    3. No potty mouths

    4. Must own something that resembles a smoking jacket. (no terry cloth bathrobes)

    5. Occasionally use 4-5 syllable words no one knows the meaning of.

    6. No rude belching or releasing of gas.

    7. No scratching yourself or picking your nose...

    8. Have a pipe or cigar for appearance sake (bubble gum cigars are acceptable)

    9. Brandy Snifter (filled with Cognac or Tonic water)

    10. Must be able to recite a short poem (military cadence acceptable) and know art when you see it...(like a fine engraved firearm)

Rembrandt - Do I have to drink one of the two selections from my snifter? May I put something else 'classy' in it? See list in my last post. Don't feel like really good brandy today. Tonic water also needs good gin in it - Tangeray type - and it is a summer drink. Used to be called the 'Sundowner' I believe. Kept you from getting that bad mosquito thingie.
I know art, can't afford it. Pretty to look at and drool over though.
Will cigarette holder work in lieu of pipe or cigar? Otherwise, will have to go to store and by one of the bubblegum variety.
    sincerely,
    spiny

Lord Spiny, club rules are only a "general" guide...gentelmen such as ourselves must maintain tastes for the finer things in life..."pardon me, does anyone have any Grey Poupon"?....

Cowdoc, how does that Yellow Bird song go?

    Wait lemme think:

A yellow bird with a yellow bill was sitting on my window sill. I lured em in with a piece of bread & then I crushed it's little head!
The moral of the story is clear....

    I better stop there.

I'm not too suave for this club, am I

    Regards,

Somehow I envision Sir Lord PaBooger as the Hugh Hefner type, wearing his burgundy satin smoking jacket while lounging around the pool, cigar in one hand , cognac in the other....bet Mabooger keeps a short leash on him when he goes to town...[;)]

Sir FrancF....never had any members wear kilts before, I suppose one should take extra care when sitting (modesty you know)...seem to recall in the movie "Braveheart" they are bit drafty...[:0][:D]

I tried goin the standard, it don't bother me the like. Just one to many times, you get the ones that gotta look. Then act like the have never seen nature before.
