What's the Point?

Why is it that some Sellers just flat out lie?
I just don't get it. Do they think the buyer is that Stupid?
Do they not think the buyer will find out and call them out on it?
What's the Point?

My most recent example.

I purchased a rifle from a GB Seller. Seller said he would split shipping, $35.00 / 2. So, I sent the Seller $20.00, more than half, with instructions to add insurance. *Seller stated shipping cost $40.62 *The seller shipped the rifle via USPS ground with No insurance. Took 2 weeks to receive the rifle. (Arizona to Texas) I contacted USPS, and they stated shipping was $24.16 with No Insurance added.

Seller denies info regarding insurance, and still swears shipping was $40.62

Leave feedback appropriate for the transaction. "Warn" potential buyers there. Open a support issue. As stated above, the forums are not the place to complain about the auction side.
