Walking the dog Florida Style

My father who is 78 years old, has two artificial knees and is nursing a broken wrist, was walking his puppy around a pond at Homestead General Aviation Airport. They walked around one of the ponds common in South Florida and the pup, an English Cocker spaniel was retrieving coconuts tossed into the water. During one retrieve, a 5 to 6 foot gator appeared and made for the pup. My Dad jumped the gator and the gator took off empty jawed. Glad to know his still has his nerve and moves decisively. I just wish I had a video of it and maybe a gator hide.

    Good deal, dad!
A 78 year old guy whips the * of an alligator.
I know how he feels, I would do anything to protect my dogs.

No kidding! My Grand dads neighbor was not as lucky, Dog was fetching sticks in a canal behind the house. Poor guy did not have a chance.

    way to go gramps!
he might be old, but he`s still got courage. taking on a gator at any age is risky, im glad he came out of it safe.

a similare thing happened in the tropical north here a few years ago, the croc got the dog, and then it got the dogs owner, he got bit and bled to death.

Glad to hear your dad and pup are OK.
Homestead General is about 20 miles south of me.

Just about any body of water around here may contain a gator.
Dogs seem to be their favorite food.

OMG! You mean there are gators in ponds in Fla? Who'd a thunk that?

    Do they have artificial brains?

Thanks for the kind replies. He is not even sore after his reptile encounter. I am very glad the gator was not bigger. Have a wonderful Sunday.
