I went over to Gibbons' Creek Res. today. It was so nice and just a slight wind. I took my little 12' canoe and the fishin' pole. Heck I wasn't real concerned about fishing, but if I'm on the water I WILL have a pole. I paddled out to this small island and checked out the waters around a group of Great Blue Herons nesting in an old cedar tree, left to die as the reservoir filled with water years ago.

This 2nd pic sucked, but gives a better idea of the tree.

Well, I casted and casted, nothing. I paddled over by the road and casted and drifted along the rip-rap, beyond these cormorants sitting in the tree. Not a thing. Damn. But I was enjoying the beautiful day anyway.

It was getting late afternoon and I paddled back toward the little island opposite the Heron colony. Casted about another 15 minutes and had a hellacious hit. FISH ON! Just a short time in shallow water, had him 4' out from the side of the canoe, BIG BASS surfaced parallel to me, opened his mouth enough for me to see it was big enough my fist would have easily fit in its' mouth, shook its' head viciously and was off. What I said could have been heard around the lake and wasn't SFW, dogs or much else! The best Bass I ever had, and it was gone!!!!
I'm still in shock. There have been 13# plus bass pulled out of this little res.
Oh, well, that's how it goes. At least I had one bite, and had him on long enough to see what it was. Thank you Lord, thank you Jesus!
Hope turkey opener this weekend goes better.

(my line at the bottom of the page is just a quote from a book I read years ago, But I back up all I say with pics these days if and when I can. The lies went the way of my childhood.)
