2 hours. You will need an impact for the flywheel bolts.

On the 4.3 there is one bolt at the top of the bellhousing that is hell to get at. Depending on the year of vehicle (I'm assuming S-10 or variant) it can be done in about 4-5 hours.

Do yourself a favor and buy a few 24" extensions and a heavy-duty swivel. If you have an impact gun it'll make things easier. Did the same job on an Infinity awhile back, I'll take the S10 anyday[:D]

PS: Make sure you check your starter clearance after you put in the new flywheel, should be 1/8" if I remember correctly

That would be a flexplate rather than a flywheel, wouldn't it?

You are correct. Most people still call it a flywheel though. I dont find it worth my time to educate them.

While you have the flex plate off. You should replace the rear main seal. It is full circle type. And is easyly accsessible after you remove the flexplate. Also Replace the frt seal in the transmission. Its cheap insurance. You would hate to have to take it back apart in a few thousand miles to repair a leak.

It took me about 6 hours [:D]
I did it in my garage with just putting the truck up on 4 stands and using 3 jacks to support the tranny and engine.
    I have a 94 Chevy 1500 with a 4.3L V6.
Need a second pair of strong hands when breaking loose the bolts holding the flywheel or flexplate to the torque converter and breaking loose the bolts holding it to the crank.
Unless you have the locking tool which I didn't have [:D]

I did one in three hours.

You need to take the 4-6 body bolts off and jack the body up to get at the top bolts easily.

    EASY job since it's a 2wd.

I never used a impact on the flywheel bolts, the book said something like 55 foot pounds to torque them back down, two snapped off at 50 foot pounds.

I had to get a few new bolts for the flywheel from the closest parts store.

    Why buy a Ford.
My Chevy has almost 321,000 miles on it [:D]
Still the original motor and transmission. Only changed the flexplate
because the starter chewed the teeth up.
