Watch closely and see the handgun in his right hand when he goes down.

Looks like a training video to me. And naturally the bad guy had some sort of evil "assault rifle"

Looks like a training video to me too.

The first officer is not using cars nearby as available cover. He's in the open ordering the 'bad guy' to put the gun down.

The bad guy never sees the cop at the corner of the building. That cop doesn't come into view until the bad guy has turned and is putting the rifle down.

As the bad guy reaches for the pistol with his right hand the cop at the corner sees it, yells GUN, and shoots the bad guy.

    Good shoot.

Nunn posted awhile back that this was in fact a training video. the point of the exercise was to show that a suspect acting compliant by setting down one gun may have a second gun (which he did), and raise that gun to shoot you as he set down the other gun.

High stress situations, and the assosiated adreneline dump cause tunnel vision directing your eyes only to the perceived threat. The exercise was trying to get officers to fight through the tunnel vision and see the whole picture.

If that is a training video it's a damn good one. The suspect hit the ground much harder than any one I have seen in a training video.

As for the officer not using cover, this is common, much as I hate to see. I tried and tried to teach the use of cover. But very few people think about it because very few have ever been in a shoot out. Once you have actually been in a shoot out you 'get it'.
I had to look at this several times, focusing on one aspect at a time before I saw the second gun.
It's called the +1 doctrine. It applies to weapons as well as attackers/threats.
This was a good one, no matter if it's training or an actual shooting![;)]
