Heroes and villians...

Reading topics and hearing/reading/watching media about heroes.

As I was raised, a hero is someone who puts their life in IMMEDIATE jeopardy to save someone else.

There are occupations which, by their nature, make most of the people in them de facto heroes.

I am not happy with calling people "heroes" that aren't.

By the way, a woman who does an heroic act is called a "heroine". What ever happened to that?

Any comments/thoughts/deprecations ??

I think people have shied away from feminizing certain nouns if only because they're ungainly to pronounce.

And "heroine" is too easily confused with "heroin."

Personally, I'm all for keeping any feminization of words that has an "x" as the suffix.[:p]

Right, monkey, or an "ess" at the end of the word.

Agree with you Doug.. The word "Hero" once indicated someone with exceptional bravery. Now it refers to any person who is in the same country(or vicinity, loosely speaking))of ANY kind of dangerous action. There ain't no villians now, only poor downtrodden victims of our terrible republican society.

There are no bad guns, only bad people.
