I'm going to make a big leap of faith and assume that alot of folks on this board drive pickups. What do you all like?
As for me, I'm a GMC fan myself.

IT'S WHAT PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT THEMSELVES THAT MAKES THEM AFRAID.
Fix Or Repair Daily, nah!
A little off the subject, but all indications (from a Ford Company Manager-off the record) are that Ford Motors will be "Bankrupt" long before the end of this decade.
And this is not to say that it's not possible for General Motors as well.
But, GM is in a "Much" better financial situation than is Ford.
There is "No Way" that Ford can honor it's "Retirement" packages and other financial obligations; that are already in place.
Only through Bankruptcy do they have a chance to salvage the company.
Not a "Pretty Picture" is it?

Big Daddy my heros have always been cowboys, they still are it seems
Over 90,000 miles without a complaint.
Before that was a S-10 that went 167,000 before I sold it. Not because it was a bad truck, but because we just outgrew it. Feller I sold it to over 3 years ago still drives it.
I've been hearing good reports on the 2004 Ford F150. I may have to take a look at Ford next time, but it will have to be SOME truck to get me away from Chevrolet.

A couple of posts came close. Some of you think you have a truck. Some of you boys seem to have had pretty good luck with those old gas burners...
But there's really only one! Make it a RAM diesel. 5 or 6 speed standard in either the 2500 or 3500. 4.10 rears or 3.73 (2004)... It doesn't matter. 300,000 miles to the time you might consider pulling the oil pan to check things. Two to three times that before a real overhaul. Neither you or the truck body will last that long.
The only engine of the three that can safely be boosted to two or three times the factory rated horsepower without degrading engine life. A truck with a heavy enough frame and body to take tons of abuse. A truck that retains value after the 100000 mile mark.
Duramax is good. Powerstroke is good. Allison is a great automatic tranny, but real diesels do better in front of standard transmissions and New Venture has things pretty well sorted out.
Say what you want, but every other domestic aspires to be a Cummins.
And if one day there is no more Cummins in a Dodge, then there's the Mercedes diesel. Look at Dodge sales over the past years since 1994. Folks are getting the message. Look at the used units available. Dodge diesels are hard to find compared with the competition.
Now - Go drive whatever you want, but make mine Dodge.

I have had bad experiences with Ford trucks so I stay away from them. My boat does have a Ford engine and it has been troublefree.

Believe it or not, a major owner of Cummins is Ford. All I can tell you about the 5.7L and 8.3L (I believe 8.3 is correct) is that they're locally grown. It's quite common, though, to have ancillary components made in Germany or England... or Japan. If you really want an answer to your question, drop me an e-mail. I have a friend who has a diesel shop. He'll know for sure.
As to the MoPar boys... We love the old Ram Chargers. As time permits we want to transplant a Cummins into one just for kicks. Probably take one of the old-style 250 frames with a diesel and drop the Ram Charger body on top.
And for the Ford and GM guys... Good trucks all. Too bad everyone can't put their best features in one vehicle, but that's life. MoPar vehicles have served me well over many years. Sometimes not as fancy or comfortable as their Ford and GM cousins, but always tough and reliable.
The '94 RAM changed everything. Tough, reliable, and comfortable. Just as tight now as the day it came home, but more powerful with a few inexpensive modifications. During that time a set of CV joints up front, a crosslink, a fuel line repair, and a A/C evaporater. Obviously there's regular maintenance and the expected muffler or tailpipe, brakes, etc.
I admit, we do our own maintenance, so the repair costs are kept down. Still, I doubt that in 10 years of service the truck has cost us much over $1,000 in component parts.
Put a 8,000 lb SeaRay in back of her and she'll keep up with any traffic on the road and still turn in 12 mpg. Keep the speed reasonable (under 70) and that goes up to 15 or so. Run light and you'll expect over 20 mpg.

Say hello to my little friend
a chevy 3/4 ton 4x4 diesel.
I just talked to a friend that likes fords, in fact he just ordered another. I asked him how many transmissions he has gone through in the 100,000 miles he had this one. He looked at the ground and said in a small voice "four". I pointed at the old chevy "orginal transmission & engine, and I expect nothing less in the new chevy".

Damn Nord... I just knew there was a good reason I like you[;)], and I couldn't agree more with what you wrote. I have an acqaintance that has a 1990 Dodge 250 4x4 with a Cummins in it, and he has 719,000+ miles on it! All he has ever had to do to it, is change the oil, change the fuel filter (very important), and have the injectors cleaned a few times.
I am getting ready to buy a new 2004 Ram 2500 HD Quad Cab 4x4 with the HO Cummins & 6-speed manual gearbox on my next birthday (shortly after leaving Kalifonia and returning home to Washington[:D]). The new High Output Cummins Turbo Diesel is the most powerful turbo diesel engine available in the 2500/3500 truck, producing 305 horsepower at 2,900 rpm and 555 lb.-ft. of torque at 1,400 rpm. That prodigious torque results in a class-leading towing capability of 23,000 lbs. (GCWR). Yeah baby[:p][:D]
I will admit though, that I almost changed my mind about getting a Ram with the Cummins, as just a few moths ago I test drove a Ram 1500 with the new Hemi... man what a thrill ride that was... 345 ponies under the hood![:D]

The hubby has a Dodge Diesel Dually & I have an old 3/4 ton Chevy (bought used this year). Mine eats gas like crazy - but I'm bigger & faster than most of the red-necks down here.
