made up a few homemade slugs for a little 28ga pump I bought. at 40-50 yards accuracy not bad little low but the group was just a little over softball size, not bad with these old eyes shooting offhand. My only problem was some of the shells would lock up the action. most of the lockups were some hulls I got from bmi and they are a little longer almost 1/8 to 1/4" longer than some winchester hulls I had loaded also.

one was so tight I really had to pull with all my might to eject/open the action. any thoughts ??? It only happened 3 times out of about 20 shots, but I got this shotgun for my grandson, no way he could open the action as small as he is.

Are you rolling or star crimping?

May have to trim some off the end of the hull.

I've been wanting to reload the Hornady SST bullets for 12ga because they are so expensive. The wad & buffer combo has got me at a stall. They use .500 S&W bullets, I haven't decided on a powder yet.

I just put a 50cal buffalo bullet in a wad pressed in and then star crimped the end. I used two different types of sabotts , one I just pressed in hull then crimped the other I put the entire sabot in a wad then pressed in hull and crimped. I also tried two round balls pressed in wad, and a 50 cal. maxi ball pressed in. all the sabots would kill at 50 yards, I need to get to a bench and try a little longer shooting, right now just in the experimenting process.

Are you getting the brass resized with a collet or sleeve resizer?

only resizing is on the mec jr, the brass is supposed to be new, I got it from BMI a few years back, I also have a double barrell. I have had no problems with the shells in it. Also the only ones to stick were the last shots wether it be one or three, only time it stuck was with the last shell.

I will go back out when I have more time, son was with me, easter, ect. so we cut it short. I'm just looking for a starting point to check for, I did take one of the empty hull that had stuck and rechambered it, it was fine, slid right in and ejected fine.

Sounds to me like you are expanding the hull to fast or hard. Other words your load sounds like it needs adjusted.

I have a good friend that missed 3 does in one morning.[:I](all hour or so apart)

The closest one was about 15ft away, one way about 15 yards & one was about 40 yards.[:0] He was shaking so bad he couldn't hit the bull in the * with a sling shot.

The lucky sucker ended up missing all those does from daylight to about 10am. Then a big 10pt'er walks out and he drops it at 70 yards, lol.[:D]

He must be a distant relative to my buddy
who this last season let go a volley of
5 shots at a few deer.
I thought all hell was breaking loose.
I looked around where he shot and 2 trees
had bullet holes,I swear not a foot from the ground.
Dick is 64 now with moderate Emphysema
and for some reason shakes badly.
He's is a life long friend and hunter but
I like to joke about him as The Rifleman!
Best friend a man can have.
