A WWII Veteran that made 3 landings in the Pacific?
He's 85 yrs old. I was going there to hear his stories but over a year ago I had a stroke.

If you are willing to send a letter or card email me and I will give you the address. Thanks....Ed

Thank you. Several years ago I came to a realization of the importance of a soldiers sacrifice. Ever since then I have made a point to give my thanks and shake the hand of a vet once it has been made known to me that they are one.

What surprises me is how often it totally takes them by surprise that you are thanking them.

My uncle was a Red Dragon, Second Chemical Mortar Bat. I loved to listen to his stories, his unit was 444 days in combat. A year ago he had a stroke which affected his speech, I wish I'd taped him. He'll be celibrating his 90th birthday on the 6th of April, I'll be there with bells on. Dave

I would. I Thank every vet I meet. I enjoy the WW2 vets because the custom seems new to some of them. I dont think it was done that often the first 30 years after the war. Maybe because there were so many of them. The scope and magnitude of that war leaves me in awe. I have been going to nursing homes every week for many years visiting my parents and now aunts and uncles. The WW2 vets are becoming alot fewer even there. Pretty soon they will be gone. The last one I thanked was my uncle who died last month. He was a navigator on a B-17. Airplanes became his life's passion but he didnt talk about the war much.

...Just the other day, I saw a fella in Menard's with
a hat that indicated he was a Korean vet. I walked up
to him and said that I'd noticed his hat and thank you
for your service. I think I made his day.

...Later, there was a young reservist in line at the mini
mart. I caught his attention and also thanked him for
serving. He looked at me like I was from Mars and mumbled
"Yeah, whatever". I'll keep thanking them, no matter what
    their response may be.

When ever I meet a veteran or current soldier I make a point to thank them for their service.

Every morning on the way to my daughters daycare we pass the veterans cemetery in Delaware, every morning my daughter (now 2.5 years old) says "thank you soldiers" because her dad taught her to. I figure they are never to young to start teaching them to appreciate what they have.[;)]

I always go out of my way to thank a vet, especially a WWII vet. They are getting scarce.

Nobody thanked us 40 years ago, and I am making certain our nation does not make the same ugly mistake today. It gives me particular pleasure to do so in front of my grandchildren, kinda showing them how to do it.

My favorite so far: a couple of years ago, saw one old fellow with a modern jacket that said "Flying Tigers Reunion" on it. Wow! Asked him if that says what I thought it did, and he said yes -- he was a flight photographer for them in China. 1940 or 41, I can't remember.

I did, I said thanks to my Grandfather while standing by his grave, it wasn't just for being a WWII vet, but also for being the man he was. He helped save the world, then moved away from the support of family to take a job serving his country, yet again as a civilian, and forged a life and family where lesser men would have failed. He was a good man, too bad I didn't thank him sooner, I was too young to understand, I think he knew that I really looked up to him, and wanted to be just like him. He has been my role model all my life even though he is gone.

These WWII heros kept Hitler from making us live under Nazi Socialism. Now we get to live under Obama socialism. I think I might like Hitler better.

My Father was 17 when he landed on Okinama with the 6th Marines. I wished I'd have thanked him more than I did. Not just for being a Vet, but for being a great Father that I never appreciated enough!
