Ooh Ooh, I know that one!

You buy a female connector and screw it on the hose, then you buy a male connector and screw it into that one. Now you can hook the hoses together!

Tell him to look for a hose that comes with a connector already on it.

    And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
    While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
    Coming down the mountain

This doesn't necessarily mean the boy is stupid. Could be he has just had the good fortune to avoid manual labor most of his life. Tell him to use Peat Moss until he can get a compost pile going. Instructions for composting are easy. Only put vegetation in it. After that it can be as easy or as complicated as he wants it to be. When he puts vegetation on the compost pile it will rot. Rotten vegetation is compost.

The problem of the hose was solved earlier in the thread. All he has to do is get a male/female connector and attach that to one hose and a male/male connector and attach that to the other hose then connect the two connectors. Either that or just connect the male to female connections that come on the hose. Much like composting, it can be as simple or as complicated as he wants to make it.
