What is the rationale for life with no parole?

Roughly 150,000 inmates in the US are doing life sentences and about 1/3 of those have no possibility of parole.

What's the point?
I used to recruit for the NRA until they sold us down the river (again!) in Heller v. DC. See my auctions (if any) under username henryreilly

For society to waste their life slowly giving them time to reflect upon the life they took suddenly.

The remaining 2/3rds should not be considered for parole either. What the hell does a 'life sentence' mean if you can get out at some point?

To answer your question,....it's called punishment for their crimes.

to cost taxpayers millions of dollars to house ,feed ,provide medical , and constant legal challenges so the libs can feel good about themselves

JMHO you get one appeal if any doubt then any sentence over 20 years well you get your 15 minutes of fame

Should send them to China, Korea or even Japan for their Life Sentence.

Sure would cost a lot less and that is with us paying one of those countries to house them.

In many States an individual may receive a life sentence for certain crimes. However they start getting hearings in front of the parole board after serving a certain number of years. The best example of this are Charles Manson and the women involved in the murders with him.

They all received the death penalty, then it was commuted to
a life sentence. They have all been eligible to go before the parole board on several occasions. They have all been denied, but many with less well known crimes have been released.

A sentence of life without parole means you will die in prison........no chance of getting out

A good reason why some things in our laws need to be looked at by some folks with some common sense and adjusted.

Get's me is when they have someone like Hinckley on video shooting the President and they still say "the alleged" shooter!!

When the evidence by itself removes any doubt of guilt, like the idiot Dylan Roof it would serve society to exterminate the culprit posthaste.
Why don't we go to school and work on the weekends and take the week off!

The US should put the life without parole prisoners up for bid to be housed by contract prisons in foreign countries. Low bidder gets them.

    Dear President of Mexico,

You keep sending us people you don't want. So in the spirit of fairness, here are 150,000 people we don't want. You may call them "undocumented prison residents" if you like.
    I may be a bit crazy - but I didn't drive myself.

It costs more to put someone to death than giving life without parole. This is when you factor in the years of appeals with lawyers fees that WE, the taxpayer, pay for... most will be court appointed attorneys.

Gov McAuliffe just released a serial killer just before Christmas. He killed his first woman Vic at the age of 13. The second he murdered with a knife in the back of a pet store. He was 17 years old at the time. He has spent 47 years in prison, ever since he was 17 and our lib Govenor thought it was a bright idea to unleash him on society. Back 2010 he was denied parole because of a high likelihood that he would reoffend. Someday soon he will kill again.....

Some lawmakers think it is inappropriate to put a person to death. WA's fruitloops governor thinks this way.
Some will die in hot pursuit
    And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
    While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
    Coming down the mountain

It relieves society of bearing the guilt of committing societal murderer in executing prisoners. It appears we would rather support them for life.

I did say one appeal if any doubt can be provided .
not the 20 to 30 year plan most are on to keep fighting , if caught and all possible evidence is there like the last few killers ( the church the movie theater and so on ) no appeal . next morning your swinging or frying

Yup. Send them South of Tehas as free folks with never come back to the US warning. If they do Kill On Sight.

As entertaining as Charles Manson is why keep him around? As an example?

Me thinks Lifers and death Row folks should be in a Ultimate, Ultimate Cage situation. Goes without saying televised to pay for running the prison. "Running Man" or any other "like" movies.
