Not cool! Post office mess up....pkgs in limbo!!!

I couldn't be more aggrivated at my post office than I am right now!!! I have been using the "click and ship" and having the carrier pick up my boxes here at the house.

I didn't have any problems until today....when two people asked about the tracking numbers they were given. (When I do the on line shipping I have the tracking numbers sent to the customers.) It turns out this is CRAP...because the post office hasn't been scanning in my packages!!!

They pick up my boxes and just send them on....without EVER scanning them in. They say this is how they are supposed to do it. That CAN'T be right. How the heck are you supposed to find out where your things are if they never get logged in???

The two that I can't find right now are the Spencer Carbine and the Yugo underfolder. Just those two alone are over $2000 just in "limbo." I don't want to think about the rest that I haven't tried to track!

Post office and tracking are mutually exclusive terms.

The only thing I have ever seen them do, is when you do "Delivery Confirmation", they scan in the tag at the counter, and scan in the tag when they load it for delivery.

The rest of it, if you ain't watchin' them, it ain't being done.

they actually screw up very little given the volume. I wish they had more problems like this with the bulk mail I get, though.

I most always pay extra for Delivery Confirmation. I've never had an issue with them not doing what I paid for.

I have delivery conformation on all of these packages. They just didn't scan them....so there is no way to track them???

Any "Delivery Confirmation" I have ever seen is only posted about 2 weeks after delivery was made.

When I was working, I bent the rules some and did extra scans that would show up when a customer checked the progress of their package. According to the official policy, the only scan which a customer is entitled to is the delivery scan. Postal supervisors/managers can get additional information through the official intranet regarding progress of a coded piece. Since I left the Postal Service 1 1/2 years ago, I'm not privy to the current situation but I do know this is a hectic time at the PO. One of the news services was doing a story about the amount of mail being handled in the next 4 days and was showing UPS employees throwing packages inside a brown truck.

I know it is hard, Kasey, but try to remain calm.[:)]

The packages may not have been scanned, but odds are they are on their way as they should be. 15 years ago scanning through the USPS was unheard of, and product and parcels flowed throughout the land.

I went to our PO box at noon today and a parking lot that usually contains 3 vehicles was full with over 20, some out on the street. These overworked and overpaid public employees are doing their level best between breaks to ensure that everyone has a most merry and joyous Christmas. They are trying to try, and some of them are even trying to care.
Freedom and a submissive populace cannot co-exist.

I got into the same argument at my post office. They CAN scan them but they are not REQUIRED to scan them until the item is delivered.

Every firearm I ship through the post office is shipped registered. Well worth the extra eleven dollars. It includes insurance and delivery confirmation and signature on receiving end.

USPS does not track packages. They just tell you when and where they have been delivered. Even then it can be dicey because unless you ask for a signature there is really no way to confirm the delivery confirmation. I once had a package delivered to the wrong place and they confirmed they delivered it to the right place. Fortunately for me the office it was delivered to was in the same office complex and they forwarded it over to me

    Kasey:

For "proof that it shipped", you'll have to take it to the post office and pay for postage at the post office. Then the USPS system will show the item was processed and is in their possession. Delivery Confirmation means just that----not for tracking. Small priority packages are usually scanned at various places so you can keepup, somewhat, with it. Large packages are not usually scanned until they're delivered.

Very very very very very common! I ship a couple hundred packages a month.......virtually NONE will show that it was scanned in, just delivered.

    The USPS SUCKS!

I would LOVE to see everyone in that organization fired!! They could hire illiterate illegals that would do a better job!!!!

LF, tracking is only available if you use Express Mail, Registered Mail or various international mail services. If you are sending an item First Class or Priority and you are using the little green and white tag you are only getting Delivery Confirmation. They may scan the form when you mail it or they may not, it doesn't really matter what they do on your end since they are only going to confirm delivery.

That'll teach you to save a few bucks not using FedEx Ground. Look if nothing else for the shear trackability of your packages it's worth it. Casey, as much as you ship you need to speak with someone in sales at FedEx, I bet they could get you a discount that would put you fairly close to what you are paying with the USPS anyways.

Kasey I use the ship n click like you do. I ship a couple of hundred packages a year as well. Why do you think they give you the on line free tracking. It's because there isn't any. Usually I ship by computer as you do and drop the packages at the post office. Last week I had to get a price on a large envelope as well as send a pre paid shipment. The clerk took my package and laid it on a tray behind her. She turned back to me and then around again and then said oops I forgot to scan your package. I thought with all the packages that I have dropped at the post office this was the first time I'd actually seen some one scan the box.

    Straight from their web site.

quote:To check on the delivery status of your mailing, enter your label or receipt number in the space provided. Please be sure to enter all letters and numbers exactly as they appear on your label or receipt.

Most cases its to confirm Delivery as has been said.

I just don't understand how or why there is a difference when you hand them a box at the office or if you click and ship??? It should be the same service no matter how it gets done. A priority package with insurance and delivery conformation....that definition should mean ONE standard way of doing things. It just threw me for a loop when I realized these things aren't scanned in. It aggrivates me because they KNOW what I send....and I was talked into using this service by my carrier. It does something wonderful to her route when I let her do my boxes. I pay up to $400 in shipping every week. She was sooooo happy when I let her take my boxes. I hadn't been letting her because somehow I felt like handing them my packages at the counter was "safer".....now I know I was right!!!

I understand your frustration. I just counted up and I've lost a 42 packages this year! That is the total, both coming and going. Post Office doesn't seem to care. I've got tracking numbers, I've got that little post card telling you there is a package waiting for you at the post office, I've got parts of packages that are basically nothing but the shipping info. Last time I was at the post office, I was there 40 minutes before they opened to wait in line and was still number 2! This was last Saturday, the last Saturday before Christmas. By the time they opend, there were over 50 people in line. We were all taking bets on how many clerks there would be to staff the windows. You probably guessed it -- 1 !!!!! Clerk took my signature card for the package I was there to retrieve and disappeared for 40 minutes. The entire post office is only about 60 x 80 feet! Where'd she go for those 40 minutes? Of course, she never found my package.

If you're spending 400 a week in shipping you are losing money by shipping with the post office. You need to call FedEx or UPS whichever you so choose and ask to contacted by someone in sales. I don't know how UPS does it but for that amount of shipping I know FedEx would give you some pretty decent discounts.

I had the same problem with my boxes of lead ingots i sell. The offical word from the post office is since you print your own labels you already get a discount and free delievery conformation,so they don't have to scan in your boxes. However they can if you can talk you postal worker into doing it.That is what i did.I went in and talked to the post master and she was pretty nice and agreed to scan them in. Also if you call and complain they will tell you it's a delievery conformation number NOT a tracking number.
