M1 Carbine stock?

I found a M1 carbine for sale that has the metal folding stock. The gun looks like it has been thru heck and back.....thus I didn't look it over good.
After looking here on GB:

Is the stock really worth that much? Maybe I'll have to go back to the gunshop tomorrow.
They wanted $1600 for it. If the stock is worth $1200 maybe it would be a good investment?
