For those of us that are using Dial Up for our computers, when you sign on take a second to look at the number your computer is dialing,, if it changes BEWARE.. MODEM HIJACKERS, will get into your modem and use it to make phone calls,, We got a phone bill of 140 bucks, of which 80 was not ours.. we were fortunate in catching it the first time it was used, and reported it to the phone company,, The billing department told us if we had not caught it that soon, we would have been liable for all charges, and could have run up into the thousands of dollars...[:(]

Warning you can bid against yourself even if you bid on all items. Below are the rules for Dutch Auctions no where in the description
does it mention bidding against yourself.

    Dutch Auctions

Dutch auctions are a special format in which the seller has multiple identical items to sell. You can bid on anywhere from one item to the available quantity of items. At the auction close, all winning bidders win their items at the lowest winning bid price.

For example, a seller may have five copies of Stephen King's 'The Stand' (on videotape) to sell. Each copy of 'The Stand' is three videotapes together as a set. In the auction listing, the quantity posted will be 5, and the bid price is the amount bid for each item. If you want to bid on two copies at $10 each, you enter 2 in the Quantity field and 10.00 in the Bid Amount field. You do not enter 20.00 in the bid amount field, as this would be a bid for 2 copies at $20 each.

You can identify Dutch auctions by the blue (D) in the item title, and because the quantity listed in the item listing will be greater than one. A Dutch auction cannot have a Reserve Price.

AutoBid is not enabled on Dutch auctions.

Here is the official word on the 55 most wanted decks of cards:

Gov Exec, April 15, 2003: Pentagon warns consumers on Iraqi leader playing card sellers -- U.S. defense officials are warning consumers to be wary of anyone selling what is fast becoming the most highly prized souvenir of the war against Iraq: a deck of playing cards depicting the 55 most wanted Iraqi leaders. Why? Because despite claims by some sellers on the eBay auction Web site that a friendly government contractor discreetly released several thousand decks to them, the Defense Intelligence Agency actually made only 200 decks for distribution to select U.S. forces in Iraq to aid in the hunt for senior Iraqis, a knowledgeable Defense official told CongressDaily . And to satisfy growing public curiosity and demand for the cards, the full set has been available to download and print for free since last Friday using links appearing on the Web sites of both the Defense Department and U.S. Central Command. The set can be downloaded in different sizes and formats, including a single 11-inch by 22-inch sheet in an Adobe Acrobat .pdf file. POLICE ALERT

Be aware of new car-jacking scheme Imagine: You walk across the parking lot, unlock your car and get inside. Then you lock all your doors, start the engine and shift into REVERSE, and you look into the rearview mirror to back out of your parking space and you notice a piece of paper stuck to the middle of the rear window.

So, you shift into PARK, unlock your doors and jump out of your car to remove that paper (or whatever it is) that is obstructing your view... When you reach the back of your car, that is when the car-jackers appear out of nowhere, jump into your car and take off !!

Your engine was running, (ladies would have their purse in the car) and they practically mow you down as they speed off in your car.

BE AWARE OF THIS NEW SCHEME THAT IS NOW BEING USED.

Just drive away and remove the paper that is stuck to your window later, and be thankful that you read this email. I hope you will forward this to friends and family...especially to women! A purse contains all identification, and you certainly do NOT want someone getting your home address. They already HAVE your keys!

I want to warn others to be careful of sights they are purchasing from. {elsewhere} has zero help if you have been fraudulantly taken when using thier website to purchase a gun. Just a buyer beware for everybody! gunbroker.com on the other hand has more safety precautions in place.

This is one of the reasons I have cable.I had a teenage son allow the modem to call some number in the Pacific Islands once, they tried to charge me 75 bucks for 3 calls all less than 1 minute.Thankfully the phone co. removed the charges.[:)]Now all I get are phishing e-mails and they get bounced back with a not too subtle message about what they can do.[:D]

That happened to me. Fortunately the calls wouldn't go to the Island where they were trying to go because my phone company doesn't allow calls to that island.

This robbery is no worse than making a collect call. My wife made a collect call from Rochestor MN to our home in SD a few months ago. AT&T charged $13 a minute which I refuse to pay.

BTW, your not paying it will end up on your credit record, so expect to see higher charges for interest rates. IMO, call AT&T, discuss the bill with a supervisor and move on to somethin important.

Luckily I have norton internet security 2005, with agressive bloodhound set-up. I also have several pou-up blockers installed along with spyware protection. If I find it (protection software)can not delte a spy program, I go to My computer......then C drive(or whatever letter you use) and then to windows.... then prefetch and delete everything in the folder. Afterwards I then have no problem deleting the spy program.

If you have a router set-up with broadband I recommend Mac address control. This allows the address of the computers you put on your list and no others.

That is NOT where it came from...I know exactly where it was picked up....

And to anyone else who thinks running pop-up blocker, anti-spam, spyware, virus protection, worm protection ...all the bells and whistles and it still took over....The phone company knew about, thanks to a phone call, but the ISP stated they are having a real problem trying to stop it...The phone company stated they have gotten numerous calls about it...
From what earthlink stated along with verizon, there is no stopping it from hi-jacking your modem....and so far they havent been able to trace it as "every time it dials its dialing a different number from a different number"...

I'm not saying that's where you got yours. That's a politically-correct way of saying THAT'S WHERE I GOT MINE! I'll admit it. A few tastefully-presented websites with attractive women sans clothing have been visited via the use of my home modem.

They tried to get me for over $2500.

I'm certain that in my case it was a phreaker (phone hacker charging his calls to us) and not my computer being hijacked. It happened when my very secure computer didn't even have a line plugged into the dialup modem. It started with a series of many short phone calls (10-15 seconds each)in the middle of the night to a series of sequential phone numbers in Romania ie. (###)###-1000, (###)###-1001, ###-1002, ###-1003 etc. as they probably used a war dialer program to find a modem that would answer. Once they found a number they liked, the calls were many hours long to the same number in the middle of the night. They got away with this for about 10 days before we got a phone bill and learned it was happening.

After a year of fighting the long distance carrier and various collection agencies and assuring them that we didn't make any calls to Romania and aren't going to pay for them, they quit trying to make us pay the bill and and just terminated our long distance service. You'd think they would have been nicer about it, especially since we had used that carrier without any problems for over a decade (no late payments, no history of international calls, etc.) Especially since the numbers that were dialed, the durations of the calls and the times that they were made were all so supsicious.

Verizon SUCKS egg shells...I have a dedicated modum line dialing into a local ISP. Verizon charges me 7 bucks a month for long distance access on this secondary line. I do not want ANY long distance on the line but VERIZON, the thief in a phone companies clothes; says I have to have it and pay for it. The MAX I can get out of the crappy lines they have is 14.6KBS. This simple P.O.T.S. Line costs me 35 bucks a month. VERIZON is a POS company.

Bullhockey...call customer service and tell them to remove the long distance NOW. Granted that I do not have a second line and never used to; but it should be the same regardless.

It is no secret that before I got my broband connection I used PeoplePC as my ISP. Yes it did dial through my phone line and my exitsing phone company was verizon. I never got that bogus charge from verizon saying I was required to buy long disatance service. I think they are just trying to turn you into a cash machine.

Have you tried to buy a better V92 modem and install it your PCI slot in you computer, it may help a little.
