Just got to fire a new Smith & Wesson 460 Mag, All I can say is WOW
Dead on at 120 yards. Fired Hornday 200grn, 7 out of 20 were weak,
This new cannon needs to be hand loaded for the right perfomance......
Will ad more later Night all... Ruger454

I found that I was able to fire single handed Casulls out of this new piece, with stability. I fired 250 grn xtp w/ 27.5 grn's of VIT N110
very accurate and flat out to 120 yds. The 300 grn xtp w/26.5 VIT N110
hit a little harder in the hand and still dead on at 120yrds.
This new 460 will replace my super Redhawk.... More to come..

I believe those 'weak' cartridges you encountered were made of copper. That is most likely for the power loss. The 460 mag is basically in between the 454 casull and the .45-70, with the actual bullet diameter being .454". So that is why it is also able to shoot 45 long colt and 454 casull out of the same gun.

    Speaking of copper bullets:

200 grain bullet. That is why it can achieve 2300fps.

.460 being fired. I can just imagine what the .500 S&W would feel like.[B)]

So my recommendation is to use heavier grain bullets and you should be fine.

The basic dimensions of the new .460 Magnum are as follows: bullet diameter .454", rim diameter .520", case diameter .478", overall case length 1.800", cartridge overall length (COL) 2.300". The official SAAMI maximum average pressure (MAP) is 65,000 psi!

The case is too long to fit into an existing 454 casull.

Remember to buy American; Oops! I can see you already have done that.

Before I forget, Congrats on your purchase.
