Occasionally when sending the usual end of auction email/invoice
I will get something back like this:

"I apologize for this automatic reply to your email.

To control spam, I now allow incoming messages only from senders I have approved beforehand.

If you would like to be added to my list of approved senders, please fill out the short request form (see link below). Once I approve you, I will receive your original message in my inbox. You do not need to resend your message. I apologize for this one-time inconvenience.

Is it just me, or does this seem like totally unneccesary BS for
the seller..?
I've never actually gone through the steps (jumped through the hoops)
and always just waited for the buyer to contact me. So far they
always have.

Some of those sellers get hundreds of e-mails a day.
They are protecting (or trying to protect) themselves.

Mine have always been from a buyer that I was selling to. And just like spryor, I have waited for them to contact me, which they do. My smap filters weed out just about everything thats junk, but even if they didn't, I wouldn't choose that route. PITA
