A very rare 1932 video that makes me sick

This is terrible, how can the government do things like this to those men who fought for their country,

A SAD MOMENT IN HISTORY --- A PRECURSOR OF WHAT IS AHEAD????

I had never heard of this event before seeing the film in the link below. Watch it if you believe that tyranny is above and beyond our "leaders". Actually, watch it no matter what you believe.

We never heard of this from history books or from parents who lived through the depression era.

They would have been 30.

Rare Film From 1932. Can It Happen Again?

FANTASTIC NEWS VIDEO: 1932 - young Patton, young Eisenhower, young MacArthur, Pres.Hoover, Walter Winchell reporting. I don't recall this from any history classes.

Do you think our military, acting on orders from a broken federal gov't, will NOT march against our citizens??

Think what you want, but THIS DID HAPPEN only a couple of generations ago.

So THATS why they have underground tunnels. They are escape routes so that when the People get pissed and storm the steps they have a way to get out. Running like cowards.

The army should have been ordered to feed those veterans until those coward politicians came back to work.

What a A hole Gen Patton was. He would not even talk to the man who saved his life on the battlefield, and ordered him taken away.

Those 10k Vets should have fought back and harshly. Sheer numbers would have made one heck of a point.
Just smile and say nothing, let them guess how much you know.

Under the world war adjusted compensation act,the "bunuses" weren't due until 1945. The vets wanted payment now "1932" because of the depression and petitioned Congress with no success, hence the protest.

Basically the vets wanted their money now which was not part of the deal.

you guys are siding with the veterans....while the military may have been too harsh on this occasion, veterans can start revolutions.

The Nazi party and the Italian Fascist party were mostly full of disgruntled war veterans when they seized power. Lenin got a lot of support from ex soldiers too.

not even close, it is sad you would make such comparison

    Fact.

I'm not saying they were right to treat the vets that way....but there is a lot more to this story than shown I the video.

Well, since you had never heard about the Bonus Marches, and were shocked by that, I may as well continue shocking you.

Do 5 minutes of research, and learn about the battle of Blair Mountain- where West Virginia coal miners were bombed by the US Army Air Corps. Really.

Look up Angoon Alaska- which had the distinction of being shelled by the US Navy.

Look up the CFI strikes in Colorado- where the miner's camp (and wives and kids) were machine gunned by the National Guard.

Look up open air testing of VX nerve agent at the Gerstle River training area in Alaska- late 1960s. 155mm artillery rounds fired.

Heard about Agent Orange- used in Vietnam? It was also used in aerial test spraying at Ft. Gordon GA. A bit over 600 gallons. And Eglin AFB in Florida.

I know I am just a cynic- but I come by it honest. Dad's side of the family was Cherokee in NC- they decided not to take the walk to Oklahoma. My Mom was born on the remains of a plantation in VA that was burned and looted by the soldiers commanded by Col Ulrich Dahlgren.

While you are at it, look up Bacon's Rebellion. Locals were a tad upset with the government not doing what they were supposed to do.

I never knew or were taught this in school. That is very sad that they took this out of our history to the point that most of my generation, never were taught this. Having said that, I do not and never will, trust our government or our politicians. 99.9% of them or crooked and could care less about the people "They" serve. I truly believe they think that we serve them and that the money they make, is a never ending public troth. I would love to run for a local political office, but the mudslinging and BS to help the people of my community, would take too much of a toll on my health and patience. I have seen good people from my own community, attacked and betrayed by others in office. Don't really trust anyone except myself. Oakie

I'm sure these guys were dirt poor and there was probably no other option for the families. It is a good point that socialism was sweeping the world at this time. The nation was broke, but not as broke as now.

For being war veterans, they got mowed down pretty easy

69 police were injured and the Army was called in. 2 of the Bonus Army were killed and 1,000 or so were injured. They tried all legal options to change their contract, and lost. They had no legal standing and no right to demand an advance of their bonus.

How long was Hoover suppose to put up with them occupying Washington?
