are you guys doing to these poor, lovely, harmless, creatures down there to make them so aggressive!?!?[;)][}:)]

When I lived down south, I used to swim with these things and mess with them. We'd knee board across their backs when water skiing too...man I was stupid in my younger days![^][B)]

Yep, gator tastes just like frog legs. And they do indeed love little doggies. Alligators have made a major comeback from the times they were threatend, and humans are living in close proximity to them, especially in Florida. They live in the rivers and also in the canals that give lots of Florida folks access to the bays from their inland homes.

I have a couple of 15 foot saltwater crocodiles. Be glad those are not in florida rivers and bays!

What has happend is the tourists come here and think its fun to feed the gators, They are normally shy and stay away from humans, We have a couple on the lake as soon as the boat hits the water they run away on the small island.. Feed them is a big mistake, they lose their fear of humans , then pretty soon they are eating your pets and your ankles..

They wouldn't survive. People would just flat out go out and kill them, every single one of them. If every gator and croc went extinct on the planet right now, I'd pop a bottle of brew and say good riddance.

The issue here is border security. If the Coast Guard and the Border Patrol were doing their job these immigrant reptiles wouldn't be overunning our parks and wetlands. They come here illegally and take the environmental resources that rightfully belong to American snakes, frogs and largemouth bass.

Don't get me wrong, I've got nothing against the crocodiles, caymans and monitor lizards that come to this country with the proper permits for educational and scientific purposes and live in zoos like decent creatures. It's the ones that want to come here, live in the swamp, eat our dogs and our joggers, without putting anything back into this country that really got me ticked off.

You can't be afraid to get to the heart of the matter and ask the tough questions.. Now, tell me the truth.. can a 9mm stop an alligator? Of course not, yet all over the sunshine state ignorant CCW holders are walking around with 9mms, thinking that they are safe, when in fact the 9mm cannot even be relied upon to stop a two-legged attacker, let alone a prehistoric monster covered in armored scales.

Actually researchers examine stomach contents regularly. They use a peice of PVC pipe as a speculum to extend an arm through and do a gastric gavage (that is they flush the stomach with water).

Water levels in the Glades are low and its mating season. The gators take to the numerous canals dug for drainage and end up in the cities.

This is true. Supposedly, the American Alligator is a cross between crocodiles and alligators...which makes for an aggressive and deadly combination.

In Florida? Nope, down there are American Alligators Alligator mississippiensis (not to be confused with Chinese Alligators Alligator sinensis) and American crocodiles Crocodylus acutes (not to be confused with salt water crocodiles, Crocodylus porosus) which come from Australia, New Guinea, Indonesia and SE Asia.

Actually, I was referring to the SC alligators. I lived there for a few years.

Entertaining by not correct. The alligators are a seperate lineage from the crocodiles and both are ancient. Once upon a time a beastie named Alligator McGrew walked/swam the earth. Mac was 40 feet long and had a skull of 6 feet. you could sleep in his mouth (so to speak). That's a BIG gator!

I suspect how the Alligator River in NC got its name and wonder if they will ever be back in it.

A woman in Knoxville found one in her swimming pool last year and there was another one spotted in East knoxville on the freeway. A lot of folks travel from Florida up I75. Police think some folks transporting alligators up North get cold feet about halfway and drop them off the freeway in TN.

Sounds like they need to open up Gator season there. Start making more luggage. The last woman killed there was from Louisville, Ky.

Survival of the fittest for the democratic mentality. Jog into a gator's mouth because you know there is a law to protect you. Good riddance.

forget concealed carry, a nice M-1 Garand or similar rifle sounds good to me. Besides, THE most effective way to lose fat and build muscle by jogging is to run with an M1 and full pack [;)]

A simple explanation. It's PEOPLE season in Florida. Just stay away from any wild animals wearing orange hats and vests.
